These guys outsold the Beatles and the Rolling Stones at one point.

Yes they were just actors hired to work on a commercial sitcom, but nobody can say they didn't turn that opportunity into much more.
They didn't originally play their own instruments but it was their voices and with their songs being professionally written and choreographed their personal energy and group personality is what made the difference and turned them into a generational Icon.

Many of their songs are very good, even astounding given the circumstances. I think they deserve more legitimacy than they generally get.

So, like, any at all?

I was acquainted with Davy Jones for a brief time, in a manner of speaking.

I had their stuff on vinyl in the 70s. Mike Nesmith is very innovative, and he hired Jimi Hendrix to open for them on their first world tour in '66 or so. The kids who came out to see them didn't understand Hendrix' music but he was discovered more or less during that tour. Also in later episodes Nesmith took a bigger hand at writing the show and used to get guests like Frank Zappa to come on and they'd talk about weed and drugs without ACTUALLY talking about weed and drugs and got a lot of stuff through the censors. Some seriously funny shit.

Mike Nesmith is very innovative,

He was responsible for the high point in Emilio Estevez's career, Repo Man.

You know, there were 2 indirect sequels to Repo Man... Repo Boy and Repo Girl.

One was a stage play, the other was a movie that I think was buried at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
