See even here we have stickies posts that should not exist.
You think its about sex but when someone want's to post about gossip it's lost.

What about Travon? Shouldn't someone here besides me have brought up his issue already.

It surely fits squarely in the gossip column.

Re: Travon Martin Reply #1 on: July 16, 2013, 10:48:20 PM
I thought about it, then decided I really dont give a fuck. Its been given way too much attention. If we ignore it, it will go away right?

Re: Travon Martin Reply #2 on: July 16, 2013, 11:51:04 PM
>>If we ignore it, it will go away right?<<

Obviously if everyone ignores it ... it will surely go away.

My point was that nobody else here ever even mentioned it.
Is that a failure of cognizance of the issue, or a solid vote for "Don't Give A Shit" ? (external question mark)

Just wondering.

Re: Travon Martin Reply #8 on: July 17, 2013, 03:09:55 PM
Here's what I think:

Zimmerman had no reason to follow the kid in his car, to call the cops, to stop and get out of his car, or to try to shadow the kid anywhere.  There had been robberies by young black men in the neighborhood?  Great.  Guess what, the presence of a young black man in the neighborhood doesn't indicate that he's going to commit a robbery.

Zimmerman had no business waiting around to talk to the cops or trying to meet them anywhere.  Once he's called the cops, let them cruise through the neighborhood.  He's not a cop.  The cops didn't need his help.  I think the other 911 calls demonstrate ill-will.

Whatever happened between his call and the subsequent call is unclear.  The only story available is from a man with every incentive to lie and the cops did a shit job investigating.  They were inclined to believe Zimmerman.  They appear to have led the neighbor witness a bit in their questioning.

Did Martin double back and assault Zimmerman?  Did Zimmerman grab Martin first?  Did Zimmerman approach with his gun drawn and get slugged by someone who wasn't going to run from the gun?  Don't know.  What I do think is that the story that Zimmerman was on the receiving end of MMA style ground and pound for at least a minute then was able to draw his gun and get off a shot isn't believable.

I think the reason Zimmerman's attorney didn't try to get Stand Your Ground immunity is because of the nature of that law.  The burden of proof falls on the defendant - so Zimmerman would have had to prove to the judge that he was in fear for his life.  I don't think he would have gotten it - and I think opening himself up to making any more statements would have been bad for his defense.

I think the defense played to racial bias and a jury with 5 out of 6 white women was going to be sympathetic to that argument.

And I think the little wanna be pig will be on the opposite end of vigilante justice eventually.

>>Zimmerman had no reason to follow the kid in his car, to call the cops, to stop and get out of his car, or to try to shadow the kid anywhere.<<

I think you are wrong there, I think he did have reason to call the cops and to shadow the kid everywhere.

But he did provoke the final incident and by all rights should have been convicted of at least manslaughter.

Obviously if the kid was up to no good he would have left the area after being shadowed by such a "Creepy Cracker" So he at least though he had a right to be there. What I have seen on other boards is a sentiment that he had as much right to be there as Zimmerman.

That is fucking bullshit. No fucking invited person has the same rights as a property owner.

Re: Travon Martin Reply #11 on: July 17, 2013, 04:31:33 PM
He's going to shadow the kid everywhere - to what end?  Someone's walking someplace and looking at houses while he does that?  I do that all of the time.  I see people do it through my neighborhood all of the time.  I don't see where things are "suspicious."

Zimmerman wasn't a property owner, either.  His place was a rental property.

The property they were on was home owner's association property - neither Zimmerman's nor Martin's property.  Neither had any "rights" as to the HOA property beyond what the HOA agreement said.  Even if the person is a home owner, their "rights" only extend as far as that HOA agreement - they don't own the property.

Of course, we could go back to 1800, only property owners being citizens, and Martin being property himself.

No, Zimmerman had no right. The 911 operator told him to stand down that the police were going to handle the situation. Stand Your Ground laws don't cover illegal pursuits of individuals--aka stalking.

Zimmerman was way too officious for his own good.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, Emp. Except that I don't agree that the prosecution should have pursued a racially motivated event. There's only a brief, fuzzy instance on the 911 call before Zimmerman hangs up when he says something like "fucking coons," but that is a very unclear from the recording. Furthermore, the media only pumped-up the racist-bashing banter so that the case took a turn in that direction as a result; thus we see a hothead wannabe cop getting off the hook for murdering an unarmed civilian.

Correct which is why I think he should have been convicted of manslaughter at the very least.

But calling the cops was a correct thing, and shadowing him until they arrived is not a crime.

I thought he was a property owner but nevertheless my statement above is still valid.  He should not have escalated the situation as he did but shit happens. Especially if you have been a victim in the past.

I have confronted several people in the past in my neighborhood but they always knew they had a fire arm pointed at them from the git go.

I think the prosecution avoided making it a racial issue to a fault, but the defense was happy to play on racial bias as it helped create doubt.

That actually makes more sense, seeing as how I missed the specifics of the trial. But who asked the black girl the "honky" question?

If it wasn't the prosecution, then I retract that statement. Regardless, I believe the media is inflating the rhetoric until people are attacked for being white/Hispanic.

Re: Travon Martin Reply #31 on: July 20, 2013, 03:16:12 PM
In six words you managed to make a sweeping generalization about a large group of people as if they were ants (borg, maybe?) with some sort of a hive mind, and you referred to "them" as "the blacks".

I don't know you, you may not be racist. But you sure as fuck sound pretty racist.

LOL

Oh and I don't think she is racist Si, I was for most of my youth, but I grew out of it.  OMG those were the 50's-60's after all.

I still use the N word almost daily but never in reference to another person. Mostly when something breaks and shit like that. After all they wanted to be called blacks instead of negro or other slang so Karla's use seems simply descriptive in the terms agreed upon, and not meant as a slur. Maybe we shouldn't use descriptive terms either but baby steps man, baby steps.

Re: Travon Martin Reply #33 on: July 20, 2013, 05:26:20 PM
There's a difference between referring to someone as being black and using "the blacks". One is descriptive, the other draws a circle around a shitload of people and refers to them as one.

Here, some examples for you!

Descriptive:

"Have you met my friend Tony?"

"Tony? Not sure. What does he look like?"

"He's black, medium height, wears glasses."

Generalization:

"The blacks are all pissed off. They are rioting."

"nit picker" Raising hand!

I used to enjoy picking fleas off my cat with tweezers, it was quite a bonding experience and even therapeutic for me and the cat. That was before the safe alternatives I use today.

I never wanted to use poison on them. The fleas run like hell at first but they tire quickly and soon get really slow.

Before we had the chemicals we have today the animal was helpless. Biting and scratching can only remove a few at best.

Good thing there are alternatives as I can't hardly see the little fuckers today.

When used with an article (a/the) it becomes a collective noun referring to a group of people.

I'm not an admin either. As far as I know only Thrash and Mosh are.

I've never deleted a post of an active member (spammers do not count), nor attempted to censor anyone, even at the height of the HF migration. To my knowledge, Dave hasn't either.

People can criticize me all they want, but I do have right or reply, assuming I can be bothered dealing with their problem. I think Dave would probably say the same.

As for perceived racism, I can see it from both sides... and living in a nation where casual racism is rife, I see what Karla posted as both descriptive and (most likely unintentionally) racist. As we dont have any dark skinned members, we cant get that kind of a perspective (Note, I used dark skinned purely as a descriptive).

Someone recruit some Afro folk to this board.

You guys will get turbans and be able to grow your beards disgustingly long.

I hate having facial hair, but the turban sounds pretty sweet.

The U.S. has killed more innocent muslims (collateral damage) in this world than muslims have killed innocent Americans. So as far as a take over, the U.S. has already done that. Soon we'll have them converted to Christian extremists who will try to fly planes into buildings.

There will never be a hostile coup from outside the U.S. by any nation. There isn't an army/navy in the world that would want to take ours on. So the hyperbole about burkhas is unfounded and stemming from a media-induced fear of different cultures.

I know several muslims in America, but I know way more bigots.

Well let's clarify that. When you say U.S., you mean U.S. Government. The U.S. Government has killed tons of people. Even their own. I love being an American. I have always been grateful to live in a free country. I don't fear other cultures or people who are different, for the most part. I don't like cultures that degrade women. People that shoot little girls in the head for being brave enough to go to school. Cultures that marry girls off at 10-12 yrs old. Countries that make their women dress head to toe in clothing to go out in public.
