I think I've won a major battle against the fucking bats that live in the attic.  I plugged the hole they were using to get into the house from the attic and caught the one that tipped me off.  Now I just have to get them out of the attic.

Wow bats huh, haven't had experience with that problem but for a long time we were over ran with raccoons possums and skunks
The cats are useless at keeping them at bay, but they did bring me another dead mouse last night. Hahaha

You should have plugged it with a one way screen, this way they go out at night and can't come back in ... Then, after a week or so, what newspaper down to make sure that there's no droppings, and when there are not, plug the hole completely ...

That is the correct way to get rid of bats in your attic, and to make sure that they all leave ...

The entrance to the attic I assume you mean, sounds like a good plan. But many older homes are open around the eves for ventilation and that creates a lot of work screening it off. Since bats rely on ultrasonic's for hunting one of the sonic pest repellents might work, if not get a couple of cheap motorla tweeters and pump your attic with high power 30-40khz and see if that works. Might bother the dog too. But people can't hear it. Well most.

Certainly depends on the circumstance.
The .22 was the right option for raccoons (sometimes the .44 they are tough little fuckers) and possums, but shooting skunks, that is not a good idea unless they are some distance away. Damn sure NOT on the porch. LOL
