So I got this Cal 25 with the idea that I would refit it to cruise, like to Antigua and Naples and stuff. It was just the hull and the rigging. I finished gutting it and now, since I'm moving to Appalachia, it's gotta go. Some work and a couple hundred in fiberglass work and you could sail it anywhere in the world if you have the balls. Can't beat the price, it's FREE! Just come get it.

And this is what she looks like under full sail:

Yes, well, since I'm losing my house I kinda have to move to WV this year. Not having a full time job for 6 months kinda fucks up your plans.

This model has been modified for bluewater cruising and several have circumnavigated the globe. Here's how Dave Martin explains his modifications.

http://www.setsail.com/s_logs/martin/martin133.html

You can read hundreds of his and his wife's log entries there. They left The Bahamas in a Cal 25 and didn't stop sailing for several years. Had three kids on the way. Nice story.

Well now I'm faced with a choice of two: Drag it out of the water with Lucille and cut it up and put it in a landfill (not very environmentally friendly) or tow it out to deep water in the Chesapeake and take a pickax to it and send it to Davey Jones locker (also not very environmentally friendly, and if I get caught it's a $5000 fine and six months in jail).

This certainly sucks.

Could you donate it someplace and make them take care of it?

I googled this: http://www.boatswithcauses.org/donate-sailboat.htm  There have to be others.

Re: 1969 Cal25 Racing sailboat Reply #14 on: July 08, 2009, 01:30:34 PM
Can you store it somewhere?  My dad has a boat he has had stored in his side garage for like 5 years.  I don't even know why he still has it he never puts it in the water.  He probably gave up after my dip shit stepbrother ruined three motor props in one summer.
Pour the wine, hold the grind, quarter to nine, let's go.

Emp, it's just a bare gutted hull. It's good for NOTHING except naval target practice.

Lib: it's 25 feet long and 9 feet tall. I already have an RV that size in my driveway and someone gave me another 15' racing boat this morning very similar to my Mutineer that I keep at the cottage. So I can race Wed nights and pleasure sail weekends. After I cut this behemoth up and haul it to the landfill, which I feel like a shitheel for doing.

I gave it one more try on Craigslist, trying to give it away. I got 15 lookyloos coming out of the woodwork, telling me they want it, but then I never hear from them again.

OK, if I donate it to Boat Angel, I have to hold onto it until they sell it. Can't do that. It's less than worthless, it will cost money to get rid of it.

Dave will take it.

He's thinking of starting a TSi Navy anyway, based on the Sea Org of Scientology.

Zoomie?  Contact some Landscaping Contractors about selling it as an unusual lawn ornament.

My dad has an old row boat that i want to use at one side of the pond to plant stuff in.  i'd LOVE to get this to grow in it:
