I know this was probably a joke, but I think it's indicative of the mentality of politicians. And that bothers me.
Yes, on both counts. It was a joke, and once you get elected to Congress, it seems people forget why they were put there in the first place.
One part of my platform is to cut Congressional pay by three-fifths, that's a historically good compromise. There is no need to pay a Congressman from my district $167,000 a year, when the average citizen makes around $32,000. That is BULLSHIT. They aren't that important, and why should they get paid that much to fuck up our lives and make us pay more? I would look to cap salaries between 60,000 and 80,000 on the high end. Not to mention bringing the Congress back to its PART-TIME status. It was never meant to be an industry. I know this won't bode well with the American political machine, but I'm more interested in cutting the fat than using it for lube.
