The other day I was driving on the interstate and hit 97 mph. Someone was playing the stupid game where they camp in the left lane and wouldn't maintain speed; their speed will swing 15-20 mph, drooping to 65 going up hills and speeding up to 80-85 down hills or on a flat. I finally decided to put enough space between us on a relatively empty highway so I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore.

I slowed down to my preferred speed eventually, but it occurred to me that I have never topped 100 mph in this car, the first car I've had where that was the case. I usually did it right away when driving a new car. At one point in my life, I'd get a rush driving extremely fast. I white knuckled my sister's Kia Rio wagon from Frostburg, Maryland to Rockville Maryland averaging well over 100 mph or fly around the Washington DC beltway with the pedal of my Ford Escort glued to the floor. I liked driving fast and I'd get a huge rush from it.

Reckless behavior gave me a rush.     

I don't do very many reckless things anymore.

And the thing I've been thinking about lately is that I'm not sure it's because I am wiser or make better decisions in general. Maybe that's partly the case. But I think my ability to evaluate risk is probably about the same; I think I take less risks because there's no adrenaline rush from it anymore. I haven't driven that fast in a long time, I didn't really feel anything, and I didn't care about hitting 100 mph. 

We all "evolve" ....
We grow out of these things in time ...

It's either because of
1) We're used to/sick of/immune to it
2) We're in another place with responsibilities (wife, kids, home, important job, etc)
3) We've simply grown up and are in a different place

IE: I've no real desire to slut around as I age (I'm 50 as of now); I fucked it all out in my 20s and 30s ....
Could I?  Yeah ... But, honestly, I'd rather just spank it, "get the poison out", and keep doing just about anything else ...
It could be because I don't wanna have to tolerate the person after (bang-n-hang) ...
... or maybe I was more patient in previous years with those that I would "hang out with" after vs the bang-n-run

I also don't drink nearly as much; I realized what I'd missed being fucked up a lot ....

I mean, we all change, most of us "evolve", and we all get older ...
Do they all coincide?  Maybe ...

Either way; it is what it is (and probably will be) ...

I guess we can always update this thread every 5 years or so, compare notes, and see where we are ....

I actually don't think I missed anything getting fucked up. I spend so much time at work; sitting in a bathroom stall because I was still drunk after spending all night at a strip club was a pretty good use of my time at a salaried job. Everyone wastes so much time at work, I'm glad that I spent all of my 20s and a good portion of my 30s making my life weird and in some ways uncomfortable.

I get it; I was an entertainer for most of my adult life ...
I was on the side of getting paid to party ...
