Title: Kratom
Post by: Tru on July 24, 2018, 12:17:03 AM
Going to try it tonight bought a 20 cap bag. I was hoping for something that could be cut with weed and smoked but I guess this stuff has to be ingested.

But holy shit these are 1/2 gram caps are huge and there are no instructions with the product. I looked it up online and 2-4 grams are recommended for relaxation, that's 4 to 8 caps right there. For chronic pain requires 8 to 9 grams, that's 16 to 18 caps. I can already see this is a loosing proposition.

If you try using it for pain reduction or euphoria you will be eating an entire $15 bag. And did I mention these caps are huge?

I'm going to try 4 and see if there is any effect. Report back later.
(unless it gives me a heart attack).

Slept pretty well, otherwise didn't notice any effects. I think this stuff is going to be a bust.

It's too fucking expensive first off.

4 out of 20 leaves me 16. If I wanted to feel any sort of high I would have to eat the entire rest of the bag!
And that would not be easy.

Yeah it's hard to tell. I have no experience with heroin, I bought something that was supposed to be heroin once while in the service but I just added it to hash and smoked it, Wasn't impressed. I once bought some shit that was supposed to be coke and snorting it only produced a downer effect. I was disappointed with it to so I put the last of that in a bowl with some hash and WOW it was fucking great. Strange but cool. I realized later, once I returned to the US and PCP hit the scene that is exactly what I was sold as coke. Too bad because I could have had much more fun with it if I knew it was smokable at the start and produced such an interesting high.

Not worse than a gallon of Kentucky Whiskey.
We were given alcohol discount allowances and who knew that allowance would become a valuable asset on the grey market.

You got a liquor allowance in the service?
I never got that ...

Not an allowance per-sey but a discount voucher, the shit wasn't free but was cheaper with your discount up to a point. If you went over you had to pay retail But some guys drank so much that selling our discount from guys that hardly drink to the guys that did was at moments beneficial. That's not to say I didn't drink, I drank thousands of gallons of local beer, but wasn't at all into the hard liquor.

Had a couple friends from Kentucky and they went through half gallons of hard liquor like I did pints.

Hell man we had a vending machine at the bottom of the stairwell that had 12oz cans of lowenbrau for 25ยข.

Were you in the service? It seems stupid but I can't remember any comments you have ever made about your service. Zoomie sure and a couple other guys and gals but
I don't remember about your service.

I was in the Army ...
91B (now 68W as of 2006)+91F ...
Medical NCO and Psych-Specialist [at the time]
(I already had my paramedic when I went in; I just added to it ...
... I declined Officer Training; I didn't want to be a "lifer" in there at the time
... 91B is an operations mechanic now, I think)

So what do you think about the potential of using expanding foam or some variation for emergency sealing of large wounds?

Title: Re: Kratom
Post by: Thrash on August 10, 2018, 12:49:43 PM
I'm all for it anything that works ...
I'm VERY anti-tourniquet ...

In fact, in almost 30 years of being a certified EMT-Paramedic, I've NEVER used one
outside of drawing bloods or administering certain types of meds ...

Well I noticed that expanding foam is hygroscopic which basically means it is catalyzed and sets up from moisture so I thought this might work well on large battlefield wounds, It would set up from contact with blood and also apply internal pressure to help slow bleeding.

It was an original idea I had but after looking into it I found they are already working on a similar product. I do not believe it is available yet.

I don't discount it ...
It sounds good ....

Now, go and beat them to it!

(For reference: the original idea of this was done centuries ago; it's called "honey"
... it's been modernized in smaller form and called "New Skin" [or, sterile nail polish])

The honey thing is completely different from what I outlined because the expanding foam doesn't aid healing per-se but it stops bleeding and applies internal pressure to the wounded areas that isn't possible with typical external pressure. Allowing the subject to be quickly transported for more in depth care.

Help me search for the current status of this technique online.

That's interesting, such a short MOS number, and such a change to the designation over time. You may already know but mine during Vietnam was 67N20.

Yeah, and it's changed yet again ...
My designation numbers are obsolete now ...

67N20 is mechanic; aviation?

And are you referring to "X-Gauze" or "Silver Dressing"?
I think one of those expanded in the wound to keep it sealed ...

Never heard of those products, I'll look into them. But I was referring to common construction foam, like for filling cracks and voids. I'm sure the formula would have to be changed to be more appropriate. and a way to properly remove it would have to be devised.
