I would have to say you are preaching to a group of deluded fools who thinks commercial sports is somehow important.
Most sports fans have never played any sport and the characters they idolize are nothing close to the media hype. The whole industry is to take your money coming and going.
Real people have to pay for those sports arenas through their taxes No way to opt out. Sports is fucking garbage unless you are the one playing.
Give it the fuck up and stop supporting that bullshit.

Agreed on the money pit;
but, no ...
I love football ....

I’m not a huge sports guy, but I think it’s one of the few things that are a common cultural bond for the country. I loosely follow sports so I have something to talk about with other people in work settings or when people try to make small talk at a bar.
I think if sports & blockbuster movies went away, you might as well go ahead and dissolve the US into a bunch of smaller countries. I’m kind of for that anyway, but without those big cultural events I basically have nothing in common with, say, someone in Arkansas other than language and federal taxes. Arkansas felt more foreign to me than Portugal in many ways.
-
I find it interesting that you equate major sports with Blockbuster movies.
Yep they are both productions for profit. But people have never been forced to provide Studios for the movie industry through their local taxes.
-
You might want to look at all of the tax incentives, grants, and other financial incentives they give blockbuster movies. It may not add up to the cost of a stadium, but tax payers are definitely underwriting the costs of movies too.

Funny thing:
The Pro Bowl wasn't played this year for the first time since 1948 (I think) ....
Instead, they loaded the players into "Madden 21" and had people play it virtually ...

I am sure you are right with this statement but I wonder if that is really a good thing. It seems like herd mentality being promoted constantly.
I liked to play sports as a kid, but organizing it through media and other means, and making it immensely profitable for a few while looting the hahaha "followers" (majority of the public), the haha was because of the religious tie in.Changes the whole spectrum.

Meh ...
I just ignore it all and just watch the games ....

But you pay for it don't cha?
I would expand on that, but Big Dog has my arm pined down.
Sucker's like 15-16 lbs.
Oh and he is snoring!
different thread.

Hahahaha ...
So, you've traded in a cat or two for a dog now?

I go back and forth on this a lot. On one hand I think American empire is an abomination. The ties that bind & maintain it are not necessarily good.
On the other hand, I think as more areas of common cultural bond fail, we'll see more authoritarianism and overt control shoving it down everyone's throats like China. I don't think the path of collapse & disillusion of things would be pleasant or easy. Selfishly, I'd rather the worst of it wait until I'm dead.

Hahahaha, I wanted a puppy right after my bypass surgery but I got over it, almost. No, this is a very large black cat that ran away from the neighbor next door to live with me. I call him Big Dog, (his mexican name was "Pay Pay" or "Pep pep" or "Pee Pee") or some shit like that. That's his name now, Big Dog. I did that because besides my potential or actual posts about wanting to kill (some) dogs, I actually grew up with dogs and love them. So as big as he is it made sense to call him Big Dog. And he Loves the name. He adopted me.

At my age and personal situation I completely understand that perspective Mike, on the other hand pointing the situation out at every opportunity regardless of the outcome might be good in the end. If we are living a lie (and we are) then where does truth lay? And why shouldn't it be spoken?
