Title: Subversive Theater
Post by: (_)_)===D on March 27, 2009, 10:55:00 AM
Nick's pranks got me thinking about this group called Improv Everywhere (http://improveverywhere.com) that kind of took the flash mob idea and turned it into elaborate hoaxes. On the surface most of them are very feel good but some of them are pretty dark when you think about them.

Here's (http://improveverywhere.com/2002/12/14/the-dollar-dudes/) one I like where a couple of guys called The Dollar Dudes were giving away dollars on a NYC subway and they wound up getting challenged by Los Hombres who show up and start giving away 20 peso bills.

They've done a TON of pranks / hoaxes / performances (whatever you want to call them) and while it takes a bit of investment on your part to check them out a lot of them will make you smile.

Another favorite of mine is The High Five Escalator (http://improveverywhere.com/2009/02/09/high-five-escalator/).

Did you see the Improv Everywhere prank called "The Greatest Show Ever" where they all went to some out-of-town band called Ghosts of Pasha's show and crowded the bar on like a Sunday night?

I wonder what that did for the band.

I don't know. It looked like the band was having fun that night though.

I really like the one where they throw a birthday party for some random guy at a bar.
