It probably was.
I don't mind spam, though I don't eat pork anymore. There are good Hawaiian and Filipino dishes that use spam.
Scrapple is a different story. Mix the undesirable parts of pigs with buckwheat, corn meal, and maybe some spices but not really enough to make it taste good like actual sausage...then people eat just that. Some people like it crispy, some people like it soft. It kind of looks like a loaf of vomit.
