Covid, schools and students.
I was thinking about this situation while watching "Young Sheldon" but as my estranged wife is president of the school employees union in our local I have had a chance to see how the schools are dealing, perhaps better than the media. But this is really about me.

I hated school, I used every excuse to skip. When it was foggy I would leave for the buss stop but knowing my parents couldn't see me (because of the dense fog) I just kept on walking. I covered a great part of our town on foot this way. Not sure if I learned anything during these excursions but I always found them interesting. There were no homeless back then and houses were spread apart a bit at least. Well watching Sheldon I thought back on that time when school didn't mean shit to me except as something to avoid. I dropped out in the 10th grade.

I had a bit of a confused moment when I flashed on the stay at home-do classes by computer online situation.

I couldn't help but think how great this pandemic would have been back then. Schools closed, no oversight. And the thing that made it really relevant to me was the graduation scene. Lots of people had banners and signs out heralding their child's graduation this year. But...they haven't been to school in many months and really haven't done the work.

Seems like a paradise world to me looking back on my early time with public schools. But, I did get a GED later, and then a little later took more classes on my own and did get a real High school diploma.

Anyway, I would have loved this situation if I were a school kid today!

Yeah, but they missed out on prom, the actual graduation, the after parties, and more ...

I know kids that graduated this year, and it's just a tragedy that they didn't get to take part in all those things that everybody else in the world has had two since the beginning of later 1900's+ school time ...

(Note: I never did those things, but at least I had the option)

Did you have any symptoms that lead you to be tested?

I never did, they tested me before procedures, for their own protection.

No, one of the people I'm around thought they were exposed a few days before, so I thought it'd be a good idea to get tested ...

It's a toss-up whether I would've enjoyed going to school online.

On one hand, I had plenty of fun: I'd often sleep in my morning classes. One of my best friends and I would spend a lot of time fucking around in other classes: doing stupid stuff in chemistry lab, for example, or writing our class presentations in English and German to entertain each other. A friend and I got the internet we had locked down for harassing people on telnet message boards, which I still find kind of funny. At lunch we'd play frisbee in the yard of the Mormon seminary behind the high school.

On the other hand, I didn't get a ton out of most of it: If I had an essay due in third period, I typically wrote it in second period. In class, I seldom took notes or paid attention. If I could have worked at my own pace, I'd have done all of the work in a fraction of the time and had more free time. I'd probably have spent most of that time outdoors. I often wish I still lived in southeastern Idaho just for the outdoor activities.

I feel the same way ...
I'd rifle off my assignments and just fuck off the rest of the time ...
