I'm on my work comp. I open up Outlook, a screen comes of saying that I am offline (which isn't true). I hit "retry" and then it asks me for my password, and I enter it in (correctly, mind you- no I don't have capslock on or anything). I hit ok, the the screen pops up asking me for my password again! I enter it in, same thing happens. Screen pops up asking me for my password. I hit cancel without entering in the password and it takes me to my inbox. At that point, I can't send or recive emails but can view what is in my inbox.
And even weirder, if I bring up my work email in Firefox or IE on this computer, it does the same thing. Won't let me read new emails.
However, if I go on a different computer, I can open up Firefox or IE and open up the email no problem.
Why is this shit doing this? Fuck you Dell, fuck you Vista, and fuck you Outlook.

you dont have IT help?
maybe you need to reset your password
-
I do have IT help, but the guy says he doesn't know whats wrong and he said he could try erasing my comp and putting an older version of Windows on it. Needless to say he's not a great IT guy.
Also, this was happening before, and we reset my password and that temporarily solved the problem. But then eventually it started happening again (like a week later) with the new password.

Cheer up, it's not so bad. Remember, positive thinking can get you everywhere!
-
So if I think positively it will make this problem go away?
Can you throw in a few smileys in that post so it makes me feel better?
-
Positive thinking helps everybody's outlook silly :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'm not a windows admin.. if it's the paid version of outlook you could try reinstalling it, or sucking the dick of your IT guy until he fixes the error
-
It sounds like your OS profile is corrupt. Contact your IT department.
-
I wonder if using the auto-restore will fix it.
-
Two questions:
1) Have you tried rebooting?
2) On that computer, can you get to other sites on the internet (ie - google, cnn, etc)?

This was the joke I wanted to make. :(

I'm going to sound like a giant dick, but I'd like to re-suggest the suggestion made by the guy here who's actual job (isn't it sad?) entails supporting Outlook for several thousand users.

We don't have an IT dept. We have one guy who comes in when we call him to come in. So he will need to reinstall Windows? Blah. What a big headache!
Eitje- yes and yes.

Frame of reference: tricky's "IT Department" is a hired gun, so contacting him immediately costs money.
I'm just trying to help her knock out the basics before she calls a guy in who gets paid $100 an hour to plug a network cable back in (for example).

There should be a button at the top of the Outlook window "Send/Receive" - when you click that, can you tell us what happens or what error messages you see?
-
it doesnt send or receive anything.
will post later the exact message i get.
-
Just search for the error message on Google. Then read what the internet has to say. Works every time.
-
if it was working yesterday, I believe you can restore your windows profile from a snapshot. If you can reload that to yesterday, and you still get an error, then there's a good chance your profile is messed on the server side.
Anyway, that's all I'm putting into this discussion. Over to people who use windows
-
Reboot your PC and then log on as an administrator account when it restarts. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\ and rename your profile folder like this: tricky gets renamed to tricky.old
Then log out as admin, log in as your user account (this will recreate your profile folder), and start outlook. Then you'll need to re-configure outlook to connect to your mail server. At this point your problem will most likely be fixed.
If you can't do that then contact your IT guy.

I did absolutely nothing, opened Outlook again, and now it's working. uh....

nice.

Mine has been acting like it's running a "shadow" copy of vista in the background ~ i.e., i go to a page, scroll down, post, then try to scroll back up to the top, and i get there, and BLAM ~ i'm back at the bottom of the page, again, clicking my way back up.
i've gotten messages that FireFox was already running when i tried to open it.
i've seen a double close when i sign off the computer.
i expect someone is watching what i'm doing, but i don't really care, i don't think. Other than my "spreading the wealth" thang, and necessary preps, i don't DO anything, interesting.
