my 10-year high school reunion is saturday and i 'm feeling pretty ambivalent about attending.
pros:- location: fun bar on one of the coolest beaches on cape cod
- it's open to the public, so i'll have friends there from my current social circle
- i keep getting better looking, thus i'm way hotter than i was in high school
- there's a cool reggae show immediately after the reunion gathering at the same venue, $13/ticket
- i have an easy time making a good chunk of money doing what i do for work, and i thoroughly enjoy it more often than not
cons:- what i do may not be viewed as glamorous or lucrative when compared to some of the careers my former classmates have
- friends i still have from high school days: 3 (i use the term loosely, more or less to describe the way i barely keep in touch with these people via facebook)
- crazy window-smashing drug addict ex-roommate/best friend will be there with daggers in her eyes for me, and she's always been one who loves a good public fight scene
- nothing to wear
oh. i guess another pro is that my friends who plan on going said they will drag out to the beach, brutalize, and then drown afore-mentioned ex-roommate if she starts with me.
can a sister get some stories of YOUR high school reunions?

Man I had a great time at my ex's high school reunion!! I got piss drunk, acted like an ass, pretended I attended school with these people, insulted a few people then told everyone I was my ex's best friend's girlfriend so they were pissed at him. Finished off a bottle of vodka that night.

With that being said - I wouldn't be caught dead at my high school reunion.

I live 2,200 miles from my high school. I have not gone back for a reunion.
I might go back for 15. I might go to Idaho and never come back, though.

I decline 99% of friend requests from people at my old school now. If I never had an irl convo with them then I dont see the point in being friends on fb.
Still high school reunions sound so much fun! Even if you dont have a hugely successful/exciting life, it shouldnt matter.
I would love to meet some of the people I know I wont stay in contact with but do get on with in like 10/15 years.

Anyways... my secondary school no longer exists, having been Jeffed in the 1990's. I have kept in loose touch with some of the folks in my class, but that's about it. So no reunions.
And there's a shocking year photo of my class from 1983 on FB, if anyone wants to have a laugh.

We had one last year, sorta. It was a bit weird, I have a good lifestyle and stuff, but most people of course remembered the utter outcast from ten years ago. Some even resented a little that I had turned it around, maybe you're expected to stay in the place you're put. Later on we all got drunk on red wine, that was ok

Everyone I went to highschool has babies now. I also didn't graduate highschool. I dropped out senior year because my mom was in jail, my dad couldn't afford to take care of me so he kicked me out, and I became a stripper.... so yea I got my GED. Can you go to a reunion if you dropped out and got your GED? I don't think you could..?

i was suspended from my own graduation for skipping so much school my senior year (go figure), so technically i didn't graduate with my classmates either. yet still i got the invite on facebook. not everyone did, interestingly enough. my intention to attend is still listed as a "maybe". i told the boyfriend i reserve the right to change my mind about going right up until the event kicks off at 4pm saturday. i think it'll depend on how many people i can rustle up for my posse, as i can't see myself enjoying time spent faking pleasure at hearing about this one's recent nuptials or that one's baby feeding schedule. these girls were not nice to me back then. the guys have been hitting on me for nearly ten years, whenever a chance encounter has occurred in my hometown, but in high school they looked right past me.
i willingly removed myself from any connection with most of these people years ago, so why does part of me even want to go?
well, i pretty much know the answer to that: it's because now i'm a thin, pretty, shallow bitch. bring on the draft beer and lame crappy memories! i can take it. show me how you've let yourselves get fat and married for marrying's sake. bring it on.

I didn't go to my ten-year reunion because screw those hillbilly chucklefucks, but a couple old friends of mine did.
Apparently a bunch of people from my class didn't show up. Apparently it seems it was because of me.
Apparently when I made some creepy comments on the reunion mailing list and that classmates.com site or whatever it was at the time I was taken seriously and about fifteen or so people were too scared to come. I thought I was funny.
I'm still damn proud of it.
I think the story I made up was something about flunking out of college, going crazy, living in South America working as a mercenary, and living under a bridge in town. I don't think this town even has any bridges big enough to live under. God, the people in this town are fucking stupid.

I don't think there's a single person I wanted to see, so my best buddy (el Scientologisto) and I boycotted ours. I heard from another friend that so few people showed up it was cancelled or something like that. Hooray for the LBJ Science Academy!

my brief drinks with the folk from school is a good reminder that while my life has a lot of challenges, it's a lot more interesting than what most other people from school wound up with.

It has started to show. Got a FB message from one of my sisters friends trying to track her down for their 20th this year. People are already trying to plan for my class 20th in 2 years. The exposure to americans (all the net newbs/FB)is driving it.
There was a 10th one for my class as well, I ignored it.

We had a Formal. There was also a Semi-Formal in Year 10. I missed the first and skipped the second.
