We have three months before the upcoming transplant date.
My donor and all the adventures so far have happened, and I'm halfway to telling the guy to piss off and take his bulimic kidney with him.
For those not in the know, I had a stranger to me, acquaintance to a cousin in Michigan, step forward to be tested as a living donor for my needed kidney transplant. I was taken back and stunned by the gesture. So, I sent him all the paperwork and he went through with the testing and I received a message from HIS mother. She essentially threw down the gauntlet of how he is an alcoholic, bulimic, an attention whore... Oh, and also how she used to beat the shit out of him and his twin sister when she was a single mother. She offered her own kidney in place of her son's. She also railed on how undependable his wife is, being bi-polar, and the only reason he married his wife is because he wanted an Asian baby. His wife is Korean.
She went on to further detail my donor's reason for this is that he thinks this will bring me to find Christ as my Lord and Savior. He also intends to NOT proceed with follow-up appointments from the surgery, which could be a verifiable death sentence. He wants to be remembered for doing a great act for the glory of God. He wants to be a martyr.
We flew him down here to South Carolina from Michigan for the final round of testing. We met him at the airport, got him a rental car, and had him over for dinner. He seemed sane and reasonable. Never pressed any religious issue to my face, and seemed quite friendly. I was starting to think his mom was just looney tunes, then a month after he flew back to Michigan, IT started.
Bible verses, talk of his sacrficial "gift" to me, and then once I started looking into making his travel arrangements for him and his wife, he demands his two year old daughter must travel with and stay with him. The hospital allows no visitors under 12, let alone 2 year olds in the post-op ICU.
Every arrangement we send up that we can afford, he has disregarded. And he's not really looking pitch in since he is in Chapter 13 bankruptcy and his wife is in Chapter 7. Now, why in the world, if you are that far deep in shit would you go and put yourself on the O.R. slab (risking death, albeit a small chance), when you need to get your family out of debt and secure a future for your daughter.... UNLESS you were planning to die...
To me, it seems as he's trying to find a nice tidy way to die by martyrdom. I feel bad for his daughter. I'm already more than tempted to walk away. I have other folks who have volunteered and they are leagues more sane and live a lot closer. I'm meeting with my Dialysis unit social worker and nephrologist on April 3 to talk it over for their opinion. My Nurses and Techs simply said, "Sounds like a whackjob."
Average wait time for a cadaver transplant at my center for my blood type (O+) is 3 years. I've already been on it almost 2 years. I can deal with dialysis a little while longer.

She offered her own kidney in place of her son's.
-
She's also an alcoholic.
-
Wow.
Back in 2006 when my husband had his last transplant, him and his dad (the donor) had to had psych evaluations done. Why haven't they done that?
At the time, we thought it was so dumb. They acted like he was trying to manipulate his dad into giving him a kidney. We were all like, "um..well..what kind of horrible father wouldn't give his kidney to his son if they were a match?". We were told it was to be sure everything was on the up-and-up.
Are there any other O+ people on your list that live closer? I would be concerned that a bulimic alcoholic kidney might not take because it is all fucked up.
-
He had one. According to my clinic nurse who I talked to, she's had plenty of experience with those in the nutty bunch and she tells me that these folks can pass a psych eval by giving the answers people want to hear.
She and her 30 years experience told me to run like hell.

The possibility of getting a damaged kidney would be more troubling to me than some nut intent on dying getting his wish. He'll probably off his entire family whether he gives up the kidney or not.
-
I had that thought as well ...
-
Squirming like worms in a box unable to see our way out are we.
-
I went and talked to my dialysis clinic social worker on Monday, and this woman is 1960's mellowed out never changes the smile on her face for anything. The zombie apocalypse could break out and she'd probably only say, "Groovy." But she told me, "This doesn't sound like a good situation for you or him."
On the other front, a friend of my wife's who is local wants to donate to me if batshitlocoman falls through. The local lady is a hardbody marathon runner.
My interest is aroused.
-
Oooh, take the BMW of kidneys!
-
Yeah, right ...
-
I think this is a case of ignorance would be bliss. If Brandon did it anonymously, I wouldn't know he was off his rocker, bankrupt, and possibly going to ruin his family by his own hand. Then, I'd be okay with it.
-
Yeah, maybe it's best NOT to know ...
-
Oooh, take the BMW of kidneys!
I second that.

Since my kidney stone has hardly moved in the last three weeks I've been given one last month for it to pass naturally or I will be forced to have surgery. Yea!
-
Yowch!
-
Oxycodone time.
-
Yeah, looks like it may happen on the 25th.
Laser lithrotripsy (http://www.yoururologyhealth.com/holmium_lithotripsy) may not be as trippy as it sounds.
-
Well I'm still alive. I think the temporary stint is more painful than the stone.
How are you doing Daddy, any news?
-
Ow... so what is a kidney stone and how do you get one? Swallowing pebbles at the local schoolyard?
-
It's just an accretion of minerals. Chronic dehydration may play a part which is why I'm supposed to drink at least a gallon of water a day. (very hard to do) But usually they get passed before they ever become big enough to be a problem and usually aren't noticed. Once they become impacted where they are logged in the kidney and don't pass then they they build up (it seems the minerals are attracted to a stone similar to the way oysters make pearls) until they begin to cause kidney function problems or in my case pain. They can be formed from a variety of different minerals and if possible they like to analyze them to see if the problem is genetic or diet related.
I think mine may have been formed from uric acid and could be related to my problems with gout. The fragments after being blasted with the laser are supposed to be removed during the procedure but I don't think mine have been analyzed, at least not yet.
I do have an appointment to have the stint removed on the 15th. I'll find out more then.

Calcium plays a BIG part in kidney stones ...
-
Wow good guess Thrash, calcium is the main culprit.
Composition, calculus, infrared spectroscopy Calcium Oxalate Dihydrate (Weddellite) 20%
Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate (Whewellite) 80%

[cue "it wasn't a guess" post]

What are my dual-degrees in again?
-
What are my dual-degrees in again?
Umm are they
Surfing Studies
and
The Amazing World of Bubbles
?
-
He has an associates degree in the proper use of Johnson & Johnson and a Master's in Winky Sphincter.
-
What are my dual-degrees in again?
Modesty and understatement.
-
Computer Science and MEDICINE ...
-
I still think one of his degrees must have been in BUBBLEOLOGY!
BUBBLEOLOGY Keith Michael Johnson's touring show explores the secret world of bubbles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sThV5i2qbHg#)
LOL
Btw the courses I referenced are actual college courses that you can actually get a degree from.
The Surfing Studies is from a Uni in Australia and the bubbleology is a course from Caltech.
-
I've actually heard of that ....
-
I have a degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting. Seriously!
-
I was pretty much the smartest kid in my graduating primary school class. BOOYA!
-
What is "Primary School" akin to here in the states?
-
I think K - 6th.
At least when I went, 7,8,9 were considered junior high or middle school and 10 - 12 were high school.
But it's all different now and I don't know what's going on most of the time.
I guess primary school could be considered anything before college.
-
Primary is through 6th, or until you're 11 or so. Then secondary school is after that. I dunno about the rest. I think it used to be O-levels and then A-levels and now it's GCSE's and then A-levels and then university? Something like that.
-
We called it Elementary.
-
Yeah, same thing.
-
I think K - 6th.
At least when I went, 7,8,9 were considered junior high or middle school and 10 - 12 were high school.
Same as when I went to school ...
... but that was just in my town, none of the surrounding towns did it that way
... now I think that they are 6-8 at middle school and 9-12 in high school

She and her 30 years experience told me to run like hell.
Sounds like you're getting a damaged kidney, and this guy may want to cling go you afterwards. I bet he will want to move in with you afterwards. Since he is giving you a sacred Jesus kidney.
-
SACRED JESUS KIDNEY TO THE RESCUE!
-
No, that's "Captain Obvious" ...
... oh, wait ...
-

Him, his wife, their kid, any pets ...
That would certainly explain why he needs to bring his daughter, eh?
-
I don't get his reasoning he presented to you ...

As I may have mentioned I recently had kidney stone surgery and recovered quite well, but I remember little of the experience since it was done under general anesthesia. They left a "stent" in to allow stone particles to pass easier.
Well today I had the stent removed and it was much more traumatic but not really too bad.
First one nurse ordered me to strip then she cleaned and sterilized my penis with betadine. Then a different nurse came in to squirt the lubricant laced with lidocain up into my penis, then after a while my black milf urologist came in and shoved a type of scope up my pee hole and what she pulled out is not what I was expecting, the stent had to be 8 or nine inches long! And it really hurt when she was finally pulling it out. No wonder it's been uncomfortable all this time. It was over pretty quick though.
It was quite an interesting experience, actually the most female action my old cock has seen in some time. LOL
The stone was calcium based but she said milk was fine, the only restrictions she gave me was to switch to a low salt diet.
-
I got to watch my husband's vasectomy get done. I sat about. 3 feet from him.
The Urologist used a hollow needle thing on his numbed nutsack and pulled out his vas...and kept pulling out more..and more.. and more.. it was like one of those damn clown hankies or something. Took this glowing laser-knife thingie to cut/seal it, made the cut/ seal, tucked it back in, and then numbed the other teste and I got to see the whole funny clown-hankie-vas again. After both got tucked in, he put a tiny steri-strip on his sack and said "ok. All done."
Total time from after he got shaved to when I helped him into his pants was 10 minutes. He did say the worst part was the first numbing shot.
I knew guys had longer plumbing but DAMN..
I'm surprised you guys don't all have kidney stones with all that tubing for it to get caught in.
-
The stent only goes from the bladder up to the kidney
(http://www.lifewithoutbreadandbutter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/stentxray.gif)
Sometimes they have a string that comes all the way out and you are instructed in how to pull it out yourself. What an ordeal that must be.
-
Yikes!
