Title: Generation gap
Post by: daisymae on May 26, 2012, 09:15:39 AM
I find that I don't have the same generation gap with my kids that I had with my parents growing up. Actually, my grandmother was only a few years older than me [now] when I was born, but she seemed 80.

People used to act old. Like life was over or something. Fuck that.

More than anything I have a culture gap with my parents. I'm pretty westernised.

It isn't a big deal though.

Also that's quite young to be a grandma.

Actually, she was a grandmother at my age, my mom "had to get married" at 16. Had me at 20. My parents are still married and it is kind of nice to have a younger mom.

There is a woman I was in high school with who just had her 5th kid (4 different fathers) AND just became a grandmother. She also wears fake fangs and pretends to be a vampire. She seems to be proud of her "fertility" and thinks that it makes her an awesome mom.

I prefer to act old enough to be a good parent, but young enough to connect with my kids. They already have friends, kwim? Somebody has to be responsible.

Nurse: It's all right Mr. Zoomie, there are no kids here. Let's just wheel you into the day room and you can do some puzzles.

For some it is; and you should be proud you have ...
I, however, am proud I haven't ...

It's not for everyone. There are plenty of parents who shouldn't have.

Amen to that ...
I don't have the time; I'm not gonna subject a kid to that ...
