Fuck You
-
I was going to flood the board with fuck you's but what's the point?
-
There is none ...
-
Yeah sorry, I was bored and there is nothing going on online these days. Except for endless and mostly inane YouTube videos. No one seems to have opinions any more.
-
Sure they do; they're just posting them on FaceBook ...
-
Meh, seems like a bait and switch to me.
FB is not a good thing in my opinion.
-
No B'N'S if this is still offered up here ...
-
Don't worry - Facebook has peaked and is falling off. There're even epidemiological studies on social media that basically say it's expected to collapse to myspace levels in a couple more years.
I think, with social media, it's the cycle of it being new and exciting, getting tons of users, then the owners of said network trying to turn it into a commodity which makes it unusable and people begin dropping the service...

I think you are right, I just read this article-
http://www.newser.com/story/181163/plague-like-facebook-to-lose-80-of-users-by-2017.html (http://www.newser.com/story/181163/plague-like-facebook-to-lose-80-of-users-by-2017.html)
-that says exactly the same thing.
The story has likely been mentioned on the TV news but I don't have a TV.
-
I'll still use it; I'm sure ...

Facebook will go out like VHS. Shit was awesome in the 80s because you could watch movies at home, record shows, movies, even put that bad mama-jama in the video camera and record you and your partner making a sock puppet out of your neighbor's wife, but once DVDs became accessible people bought DVDs and as the story goes VHS is really shitty: bad quality, horrible shelf-life, bulky. But you're not an elitist until you own the VHS tapes of H.G. Lewis movies. So goes Facebook it will eventually become a haven for old elitist shitheads talking about the fond old days of HDTVs and xvideos.com. Eventually, no one will give a fuck and it will lose it's potential to become marketable.
Why am I not on facebook anymore? Because:

I'd rather be at those places.

I didn't read the article, but if that URL is correct and facebook does lose eighty of its users by 2017, I think it'll probably still be fine.
-
And all jokes aside, I think facebook may have more sticking power than MySpace or whatever else.
-
They will stick around because they are one of the greatest resources the .gov has for keeping track of people.

That's certainly true, but that's not why it will last. Most of the sites Justin listed are too specialized to be simple enough for most users. Facebook allows people to do a lot with one login, having to remember only one URL. And so far, not even the mighty google has been able to come up with anything to challenge it. And even if someone does come up with something far better, it will take a vast migration of users to make it worth changing over for, probably, the vast majority of facebook users. It's a bit of a catch 22, because facebook itself is nothing special, it's the fact that everyone is on it that makes it worth using. Google+ might have been the best thing ever, but I never found out because after a couple of days of tinkering with it, I realized that nobody I knew was on there and not on facebook, so why bother going elsewhere for some (but not all) of the same people I was interacting with already?

I was about to say that Google was catching up. However, the difference between G+ and Facebook is utilization. I can't type a paper or save documents in mass to Facebook (*as far as I know*). I think if FB were to have more functions than social networking and games then it might stay alive in the near future. So, as the market dictates, they must stay relevant to survive.
On a different note. It might be possible that Google will surpass Microsoft . . . but not right now.
-
I've barely used G+ for just that reason; actually ...
I had a MySpace, technically, even if I never touched it after creation ...
-
I had a MySpace, I hated it. The bullshit graphics and songs people were able to put on their profiles made it effectively unusable for me. If facebook starts becoming like that, it's probably toast. But they probably know that.
-
Agreed; I couldn't even look at most people's god-awful MySpaces ...
