The thing I find interesting about streaming is that there will no longer be a definitive version of anything. The whole "did Han shoot first" thing with Star Wars can happen ad infinitum, with media outlets continuously editing anything they find inconvenient in the future.

Sure. But those are distinct. Disney distributes a DVD for a while, pulls it, then re-releases. The original cut DVD and the re-release DVD both exist. There's a physical record of post-release editing.
Digital means it can be continuous and there's no longer a track record of changes. Something becomes inconvenient because of the future political environment? Just change it! It's gone and no one has a record except Disney.

I get what you're saying now, and I agree ...
in this digital age, you can't really hide from anything, even when Disney has fuck ups like when animators put sexual things into the movies ... they can clean it up all they want but it's still digitally out there ...
