Title: Bleach

I'm reading the comic book series right now as Japanese study... do any of you manga fans have any other recommendations? Nothing too "ancient samurai" please - not that I don't find that interesting.... it's just the kanji are bloody difficult.

Anime/Manga and comic books in general are gay.  There are a few exceptions (Sin City is all I can think of right now).

I haven't read a lot of them, but "Gunnm" (known as "Battle Angel Alita" in english) is really good, if you like cyberpunk stuff.  Also "Grey", which has an awesome story with a kinda depressing plot twist at the end.

I just found my old graphic Novel of "Mai the Psychic Girl" when I moved, and it's also really good.

This'll sound silly, but Osamu Tezuka actually has some great comics. I couldn't put Buddha down.
