It's also much more geared towards having people you actually know or knew on your friends list, unlike myspace or hi5 which seems to be almost entirely random people adding you.

I've "met" back up with a shitload of people I'd lost contact with thanks to fb, all myspace ever did for me was got me spammed by bands I've never heard of and probably never will.
