This is really interesting, I just watched it here: Hulu - Vanguard: The Oxycontin Express - Watch the full episode now. (http://www.hulu.com/embed/mp2XEClFhALCiojVFPbT5A)
I had no idea about the laws (or lack thereof) like that in Florida.
So Thrash, you have any back problems?

Too long a film for my ADD. Who cares how loose the laws are, best drugs are illegal and always will be. Dont fuck with that shit, eat some Mushrooms, way more fun, good body high. Besides, as far as Oxycontin is concerned It's legal to grow opium in the USofA. And cheaper. Just dont get caught harvesting it.

Hmmm.....well my top three favorite drugs are DXM, amphetamines, and LSD. Only one of those is truly illegal.

i watched the whole thing
wow
Those poor (albeit, ignorant) people. What's going to happen when Florida DOES institute a drug prescription data base?
{Gotta love that attitude that: "It's better to bust the small-time seller." On-The-Street?? Right outside of the Pain Clinic?!? SURE, it is ~ for the other Tourist Trap/Racket the state's got going on, major fines attached to sentences. Might get their attention if there were some Rioting In The Streets ...}
-
It's easier to get the middle-man than to nail the doctors prescribing the pills since the prescription is a judgment call and expert opinions will vary. The middle-man is dealing so it's not quite as bad as just busting the user (although obviously most of these middle-men are just selling enough to keep using...)
I guess the only good thing is that the small-time street dealer will hopefully get a chance to break the addiction while imprisoned.
Whole thing is pretty crappy.
-
That's just it, though ~ they CAN't seem to break the addiction: What did they say ~ only 5% of those folks ever recover from it? And could you Imagine going through withdrawal, under Those circumstances?
-
Put someone in jail for 10 years and he'll break the addiction. Withdrawal would indeed be a bitch.
EDIT: I'm not advocating that, by the way. I'm just saying...

So you endorse the for profit prison system as a possible cure for these people then?

No, Tru. I'm looking for the silver lining.

The Flamingo Road pipeline just took a hit here in ol' Caintuck.
Basically they mule it back here from Florida, but since the feds are watching I-75 these days, they also go west to Indiana.
