I think we talked about this already, but when you get a chance can you come up with some basic numbers on hotels, food and drink? Especially drink.
-
Given the size of the island... are inland hotels/b and b's ect cheaper ?
-
Especially drink, weed, and mushrooms.
I'll eat nothing but beans & rice and spend my money on the essentials.
-
I'll bring or catch my own food and sleep on my boat or someone's floor. But I'll need water and ice. And rum.
-
Rum's the cheapest thing here.
Accomodation is gonna be hard to price, until I have a general idea of how many/how long and whether we're doing a multi-roomed villa with a kitchen or hotel rooms.
-
Also, hookers! Something disease free, not too high end though.
Just kidding! or not Yeah, I'm kidding Unless the deals are really good No. Really. Just kidding. Probably. Probably kidding.
-
Pimp it Si! Pimp it!

I'm thinking he's probably not kidding ...
-
Yeah let's get a hooker! I'll videotape it with Kyle's recorder. It'll be like karaoke, but with way more bukkake.

Her face apparently...
-
which was close enough to hit with a free drink menu
-
What's the fun in that?
-
...whether we're doing a multi-roomed villa with a kitchen...
I support this idea.
-
I kind of want to go if I am wanted, but there are going to be a few rules on this trip. Luke is not allowed to act like he knows that the fuck is up especially when half the time he doesn't and if he bullies anyone I am punching him in the nuts. Also, Nick has to teabag tricky.
EDIT: Oh and when I am in "working out the game" mode, no one is to fuck with that or they get yelled at and get a drink thrown in their face.
-
...and it's x 3 what the john was going to pay, in fines.
-
Also, Nick has to teabag tricky.
I'm in!
-
hahahaha, nice ...
-
I kind of want to go if I am wanted
I speak only for *myself but as far as I'm concerned everyone is wanted. Except for **Dave. He is NOT welcome to join the party.
*But hey, it's my island! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5kNHiGIKGQ)
**I think maybe this is the only way to get the fucker to leave JAX. Worth a try, anyway.
-
I bet I could get him there for a long weekend.
-
Between one organizer and another,
a. Get a rough itinerary and a cost for that figured out early. Easy way is to plan with one person, like Zoomie, what the itinerary will be and give people the option of coming along or not. You can change this later of course.
b. How much does it cost to go to a bar or club
c. Rough costing for various accommodation options...hotel/shared house/tent will Aaron have to pay to moor and sleep on his boat?
-
b. How much does it cost to go to a bar or club
Bars and clubs here tend to be free admission. With a couple of notable exceptions, drink prices here are fairly uniformly ~US$4 each, whether you're drinking beer or your typical mixed-drinks. Can anyone chime in with a ballpark estimate on how many drinks people are likely to want?
Also, what I'd imagine we'd be doing a lot of is liming in non-bar-type spots with coolers full of drinks, and obviously that's way cheaper.
-
c. Rough costing for various accommodation options...hotel/shared house/tent will Aaron have to pay to moor and sleep on his boat?
I need a ballpark figure on how many people will be coming, especially for villa-purposes. There's actually also a hotel I just remembered that's under (or maybe around about) US$100 per night, and it's not a shithole. It's also not on the beach, but it's pretty close to a few. That might be an option.
-
I completely agree with Nick, but please don't use me as the baseline. If I sail down I'll have plenty to do if something on the itinerary doesn't interest me. If I fly down I'm traveled enough (and alky enough) to entertain myself. I don't know that everyone else can say any of that.
-
The way I costed Japan was a little different to this trip. I just picked an itinerary for Ian and I and made the trip open-invite. I guessed at how much everything would cost, added 20% and that was the deal. It would be pretty hard for a non-Japanese speaker to get around and do everything we did.
For Antigua, since people speak English it's going to be way easier for folk to make their own fun. However are there any group activities you have in mind?
Lets assume 7-8 people will show up and rent a house for 8-10 days. What's the approximate cost for that and when do you need to book them by? We're going to have to rent a car or two also.
Basically, by the deadline for booking the villa, you're going to need confirmation and deposits from all who are staying. I would make it a fixed length and cost (say 9 nights @ $xyz) for everyone and ask people to put up or plan on finding their own place to stay.

That's an idea too. If anyone feels like perusing tripadvisor or whatever and then asking me about anything that looks good to them, I'm all ears.
-
Our apologies...
hotels.com is currently performing scheduled maintenance and is temporarily unavailable.
We value our customers and would love for you to come back soon.
OK Thanks.
-
It worked earlier today when I searched for the information. What the site said was that rooms, according to what they found, are $150-$1000 a night if you want to be on or near the beach.
-
I'll be VERY near the beach and will have ice, beverages and cooking facilities to include a BBQ grill. But you guys are too chickenshit.
-
I'll crash with Zoomie, boat living is fun as hell
-
...but will the beach be Antiguan or Gilligan ?
-
Paradise is paradise. Gilligan's beach guarantees a longer stay.
-
whatever man. as long as I'm not getting bitten by bugs I'll crash pretty much anywhere. If we are doing a big house that will be fun, but I can see this turning into a whine-fest about when/how much/who pays what and sleeps where...
-
A fest in which you and I do not have to participate.
-
Btw : I would be doing solo accom.
Same goes for rental car. Buggered if im going to ride a scooter.
-
I'll have a zodiac and a bicycle.
-
Re: rental cars - definitely a good idea, and they can be shared to save cost. Those of you who already drive on the left will probably have an easier time getting used to driving down here.
Also, scooters are useless as general transport, and you wouldn't wanna ride at night here with them. But it might be a helluva fun day out if a shitload of us rented scooters and zipped around the island, seeing different areas and beaches and shit.
-
Everybody who drives on the right already has experience driving on the left. So it's only the local rules and style that would be an issue.
-
I want to have my own room. I didn't mind sharing a room with Brook when we were in Hiroshima, but that was because we had bunk beds. I don't think I could have shared a double bed with her. If I decide to go I could figure out my own accommodations if we do not want to collectively figure it out. I do however prefer having someone responsible in charge of this since I tend to just go with the flow or go balls out with vacationing, which are tactics that don't always get things done.
-
I'm definitely happy to be Mr. Responsible once I don't end up having to pay for a bunch of stuff when people don't turn up!
The idea of a big villa is great in theory, but might work better for 4-5 people than for a bunch more than that. The idea of a bunch of relatively inexpensive hotel rooms (in the same hotel) might be even better for everyone to have their privacy and still be able to hang out with the group if they wanted.
-
'In the same' hotel breaks down, somewhat, with people not committing to the trip at the same time (?).
Sorry Si but im going to ask again, Is inland better value for money ? (excluding all the beach/view stuff, just pure space and comfort is my interest here)
-
I'll sleep in a hammock on zoomie's boat if he brings it down.
Otherwise, I don't really care where I sleep.
-
Sorry Si but im going to ask again, Is inland better value for money ? (excluding all the beach/view stuff, just pure space and comfort is my interest here)
There are a few categories of hotel here:
1. Expensive, big, luxurious ones on the beach.
2. Cheaper, less extravagant ones on the beach.
3. Cheap and cheerful, way less extravagant ones off the beach.
There basically aren't any budget-because-they're-not-on-the-beach-but-luxurious hotels here. If anyone's gonna build a "nice" hotel, they're gonna build it right on the beach.
I reckon between types 2 and 3 we should be able to find something that'll work for everyone. And wherever you go, you'll get comfort. Maybe not space, but why come to Antigua to stay cooped up in a hotel room?
Everybody who drives on the right already has experience driving on the left. So it's only the local rules and style that would be an issue.
BTW what do you mean?
I'll sleep in a hammock on zoomie's boat if he brings it down.

On the boat works cuz there are no bugs. On land, you sure as shit will care where you sleep.
-

I wouldl be working and I dont work without a/c... ever.

BTW what do you mean?
All us right hand drivers have experience driving on the left so it's only the weird assed driving styles of other countries that phase us. So...umm.. do you guys drive like Indians ? (curry not feathers)
-
I wouldl be working and I dont work without a/c... ever.
I don't think you could have a hotel here and not provide A/C. But that said if you were here on a working vacation and wanted to spend a little more I might have just the place for you. It's not right on the beach, but about 2 mins drive from one, and the A/C there is fierce. It's more of a businessman's hotel.

Christ, that's what you meant? Dude, when I said "those of you who already drive on the left" I meant "on the left side of the road".
So...umm.. do you guys drive like Indians ? (curry not feathers)
Never been to India, but no, it's nothing like I imagine it would be there. Roads here tend to be crappy and full of potholes and with wandering livestock and people who don't use turn signals and people who stop in the middle of the road to talk to someone etc. It's dealable with, but easier if you're not also trying to remember to drive on the left SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Lots of options. Inland is cheaper and we'll rent cars... I assume there are taxi's to take money from travelers as well. Add $10 per day per person to rent a car. I don't know what food and drink costs but a villa will be far cheaper because we can cook or do BBQ etc.
-

The a/c thing was more of a 'i aint sitting on the beach with a laptop' type thing.

ahh, i fucked that one up. my bad x 2.

Soo, it's alot like Brisbane (where i live) now we have all the indian students driving our taxis. sweet.
Nick... That second link is nice. the villa.

I meant more along the lines of the options presented. I'm not planning to sleep on a park bench or passed out drunk on a lawn to get eaten alive.

Let's bear in mind that unless I pay for a transit slip for the entire time we're there I will be anchored offshore. Of course, we could share the cost of a slip, someone could have the private berth, there's the drop down setee, a crew berth, I could rig two hammocks on deck, and we'd have AC in the cabin but that would still put us ashore where there will be bugs. And I don't relish the thought of partying until 2am and then trying to pilot a zodiac back out to anchor in a drunken state where I wouldn't even consider driving a car. So it's a bit of a pickle...
-
I will go if we get a villa and Nick does all the cooking. I will do my best to be topless on the beach at all times in exchange for this service. Also, I do not want to stay with Luke. Just don't. Don't want to stay in the same house as him and I don't really want to be on the same beach with him at the same time where I can see him. I know for a fact that hip will not come if banal goes. Banal knows why. I know most of you like to avoid the way it is, but I guess I'm the only one who wants to make the rest of you face the way it is. I can go on this trip if it is held between the dates of 1/08/2011-1/16/2011. I would like to know sooner than later if these dates are going to cemented in all of our schedules. Chop Chop!
-
How come housing prices are higher in the winter? Do you even have a winter there?
-
I will go if we get a villa and Nick does all the cooking. I will do my best to be topless on the beach at all times in exchange for this service.
Meh. Seen 'em.
Also, I do not want to stay with Luke. Just don't. Don't want to stay in the same house as him and I don't really want to be on the same beach with him at the same time where I can see him. I know for a fact that hip will not come if banal goes. Banal knows why. No actually I've been considering broaching this subject.
Tricky, is there going to be a problem between us? I've been behaving myself of late, not because of this trip but because it was brought to my attention by mutual friends what a supreme dickhead I've been with little or not reason and because it's the right thing to do. Also I've been compared to Tru, something I'm not sure how I feel about.
If the idea of being around me for a few days completely repulses you, I can make other arrangements. I just think we should be open about this. So please speak your feelings.
-
I am fine with the dates of 1/08/11-1/16/11. Though I'd probably head down there on that Thursday rather than the 8th.
I would also be fine with sharing a villa with people. The point about partying and getting back offshore at 2 AM is a good one and probably a good reason just to stay on land.
-
Anybody who has a problem with being on the same island, at the same time, as somebody they dont like, is a fucking idiot.
and for the record, banal does not know why. and dont give a fuck.
-
sakhi thinks it's because of how banal sometimes slips into third person.
-
If I go, I really want hip to go. :( If I don't go, I don't care if she goes or not. haha
Zoomie, it'll be fine.
I think 1/08/2011-1/16/2011 will be ok for me. Wow I can't believe we are planning a trip so far in advance! Hopefully I won't be dead or living in a cult in Mexico by then.
-
Still down ....
-
I will cook for any girl who walks around topless and any guy who doesn't
I'm not interested in this time away being a he-says, she-says festival. Can all potential guests who have issues please arrange to leave them behind or at least agree to let each other have a good time before showing up.
-
When I get an apology from Luke for being an annoying asshole in Japan, on purpose, I will set my issues aside. Until then I will remain pissed. I cannot allow men to act like they can run the show and do bullshit to me whenever and however they like. It is unacceptable.
-
I'm figuring out at the moment whether I can do a World Tour late 2010, and another one in October 2011. I'd like to spend Christmas in Ireland at least once more before I die.
Stay tuned.
-
I meant more along the lines of the options presented. I'm not planning to sleep on a park bench or passed out drunk on a lawn to get eaten alive.
Honestly dude, you're one of the people whose visit to Antigua should create the least drama. People talk about me being somewhat "unburnable" on this board, but can anybody think of someone more universally liked/respected than Emp? Me either.
Let's bear in mind that unless I pay for a transit slip for the entire time we're there I will be anchored offshore. /me doesn't understand... the fuck is this "slip" business?
I will do my best to be topless on the beach
Sounds good!
Also, I do not want to stay with Luke. Just don't. Don't want to stay in the same house as him and I don't really want to be on the same beach with him at the same time where I can see him.
Not to be a dick, but it seems to me like this is your problem, and not Luke's. As I mentioned before, this is MY island, and I welcome you all. If anyone has a problem with anyone else, that's fine, deal with it as you see fit. But if anyone's looking for me to set this trip up so that nobody is around anyone they don't like... well, sorry... I guess. This is the Caribbean and that's not how it works down here. On an 108 square mile island, you see and deal with people you're not fond of all the time. You wanna be part of this L-G jaunt? Deal with whoever else is coming. OR come visit on your own terms, and without the crowd! That goes for everyone: I'd be happy as fuck to host all, or any, or whichever of you would like to check out the island.
I know for a fact that hip will not come if banal goes.
See above.
How come housing prices are higher in the winter? Do you even have a winter there?
No, and that's the whole reason! "Winter" here is the coolest time of the year, fucking GORGEOUS weather, and shit fucking weather everywhere that sends us tourists. Tourists flock here in the "cold" months cuz our cold months are great, and their cold months are depressing.
No actually I've been considering broaching this subject.
Again, see above.
Zoomie, it'll be fine.
That's the fuckin' spirit! And let me point something out: we're talking about whether people's silly board-squabbles will be a factor in the enjoyment of the whole group ON A FUCKING GORGEOUS ISLAND IN THE BEAUTIFUL CARIBBEAN SEA! Get over it, fuckers. THE WATER IS TURQUOISE! THE DRINKS ARE COLD! THE GRILLED MEAT IS HOT AND DELICIOUS! STFU AND STFU AND S... T... F... U...!
-
but can anybody think of someone more universally liked/respected than Emp?
+33/-2 kinda says it all, dunnit?
-
Everybody who drives on the right already has experience driving on the left. So it's only the local rules and style that would be an issue.
I have experience driving on the right, but that doesnt mean I was any good at it.
That's why I happily defer to anyone willing to drive me around countries that drive on the right.
-
...and six of you will happily defer to my drunk skunt driving you around in my seven-seater!
-
A slip. You know, so if a few friends and I live on the boat while we're in Antigua we can be afforded the same, or nearly the same luxuries as those who wish to take a hotel or villa. Running water, air conditioning, etc. Drunken boating in the dark is never a good idea.
-
When I get an apology from Luke for being an annoying asshole in Japan, on purpose, I will set my issues aside.

It's for boats.

I don't live on your island Si, I live in Texas. Therefore I got my requested apology.

I'm sorry for having red hair

I'm sorry that Dave will never leave JAX, or see my boobs.

everything Dave says is mostly false

I'm pretty sure you'd wanna just anchor offshore, which is free. A slip would probably run you way more than just getting a hotel room.
I don't live on your island Si, I live in Texas. Therefore I got my requested apology.
Fair enough! Man I was drunk last night!
-
I'm pretty sure you'd wanna just anchor offshore, which is free. A slip would probably run you way more than just getting a hotel room.
And as I said, I have absolutely no problem with that. But getting home in the dark in an 8' zodiac after drinking you fuckers into a coma is not my idea of a good time...
-
I'm sorry that Dave will never leave JAX, or see my boobs.
Keep thinking that ....
-
Yeah, I have a confirmed sighting of Dave in St Augustine...
-
As well as other places ...
-
The Safeway one county over doesn't count as leaving JAX Dave.
-
Fernandina Beach to fix Suzie's computer doesn't count either.
-
She's in FLAGLER BEACH, I travel to Fernandina Beach every Monday, and Mosh and I went to Cedar Key, halfway across Florida ...
Any credit here at all?
-
Totally, dude! Also, the other day I drove all the way to English Harbour.

Takes about 40 minutes to drive.

That's not too bad ...

Kind of funny that I've ended up just south of Mexico, and kind of sad that this trip ain't gonna happen.
-
not this year at least
-
So you come to Philly for a weekend Si.
-
I'd love to, although it'd have to be after football season of course.
