Has anyone else noticed that Britain has no separation of church and state, has an official state religion and yet it is one of the most secular nations on earth?
Whereas the US has separation of church and state written into it's constitution, specifically designed to OUTLAW an official state religion and yet religion nowadays is tied directly to politics.
Irony you are a cunt and a half...

Don't a number of other European countries still technically have a state religion?
I think in a society where people are generally weakly religious, state religions can be a good thing. It means they only are allowed to practice at the whim of the state and are excluded from trying to directly affect the electoral process.

I can quite safely say no I did not notice.

Islam in 5... 4... 3...

It's one of a select few things I'm quite proud of about my supposed countrypeople. Brits, or at least a lot of them, treat religion like they treat the Queen. It's a vague concept they've heard of, but it doesn't really factor into their daily lives. If only everyone treated religion this way!

Yeah, if only. The GOP looks like it's going to shove Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Tim Pawlenty in a box and whichever two don't get eaten will be on the next prez ticket.
These are people who have said:
"God is in charge"
"Any believer who has knelt is prayer to the Almighty has a friend and ally in me"
"I hope we can take this nation back for Christ"
"I can see Russia from my front porch"
And may Dog have mercy on our soles...

hahaha silly 'mericans, with your silly mainfiest destiny and all that stuff...

hahaha silly 'Ozzers, with your silly internet censorship and handgun control and all that stuff...
-
Aren't slingshots banned in Oz, too?
-
We dont have internet censorship... yet.
We do control hand guns, and amazingly, that's not seen as a bad thing here. What are we thinking???? I know, our homicide rates just dont stack up to yours...
No, you can get slingshots here.

-
Shouldn't they be? Especially brass knuckles, FFS!
-
Butterfly knives, throwing stars, katana's, all controlled.
It's no big deal. Ther's no outcry about curbing our freedoms because I cant get brass knuckles.
-
I just don't see the point in making them controlled. You can make similar implements cheaply and quite effective just around the house.
-
You're not taking into account 2 things... Australians, by and large, are docile, and people are generally lazy.
-
Curses... Foiled again.
Whatever happened to those humble beginnings as hardened criminals?
-
Too many of them came from Ireland and they were too drunk to fight.
-
Hey, wasn't killing Aborigines legal until only about ....
-
Criminals is a relative term. All sorts of bullshit was a crime back then.
-
Weren't they mainly debtors?
