Has anyone else tried to watch this?
I ate some cannablubbler,
and I couldn't get into it.
It's like Avatar ~ an animation of real thangs ~ and I didn't like it, at all.
I got Keanu Reves mixed up with That Pirate Dude,
the arrogant Edward Scissorhand's one?
ANYWAY, if I have to Sort of ReThink Life As I Know It, in order to understand your fucked up movie?
I am most assuredly NOT your Target Audience, so save your elf
and STFU,
M'kay?

It's not arrogance when it's justified. I'd be a royal prick too if I'd just come from fucking Kate Moss...

I loved A Scanner Darkly. From what I've read about it you shouldn't have had a problem with it. It originally wasn't written as a Sci-Fi movie, but Philip K. Dick added the cyberpunk stuff in because it's what was expected of his writing. The book/movie is really just about life in the drug scene.

Oh, the story line and all might have been FAB,
but, see,
I was HIGH, and that animation thang?
I kept feeling like I was tripping,
then, I kept trying to figure out which anime was which actor,
and you know when KR is in that Anon Suit, and it shows him actually IN it?
THAT took me ForEver to "get,"
and then I just gave up.
I probably ought to just read the book, 'cuz anymore I have no patience with the music in movies (when I started watching, I was able to fucking HEAR, and I'd like to STILL be able to hear when it's over),
the darkness of supposed reality (man, if I was caught in some of those situations in TOTAL BLACKNESS? I'd just lie down and hope no one stepped on me!),
and the Whispering, like the dialogue is some sort of Big Fat Secret!
I honestly don't understand how theaters stay in business...

I can't believe you compared it to Avatar. That would be like comparing First Blood to The Care Bears. It makes no sense.
-
Oh, it was just that, like Avatar, it was an animation of Real things/peeps.
I haven't seen Avatar, yet. I'll wait until it comes out on DVD.
-
It's out. I'm watching it on Blu-ray tomorrow.
-
Someone let me know when it comes out on VHS. Beta would be preferred.
-
I'll wait until it comes on cable. It looks like a dumb sci-fi nerd blue furry movie to me.
-
I think I found a movie with tricky in it.
hehehehe

I really wish I saw Avatar in IMax ...

I liked A Scanner Darkly. The comparison to Waking Life is obvious just because it was also a Linklater film, but I thought A Scanner Darkly was much more coherent and less pretentious. (Mind you I didn't hate Waking Life by any means it was just silly in the same way Altered States was.)
Avatar was OK as well. I thought it had all the epic elements of the Star Wars franchise and I think it played well in 3D in theater. I think your pre-judgement of it will be validated in your eyes, Phaedrus, but mostly because you're watching it on cable where most of the epicness is dissipated. On the other hand I don't think it was anything particularly mind-blowing. It was just a traditional adventure story that had excellent animation and that arrived at a good time (i.e. when the economy is suffering and people are seeking escapist activities).

I just watched "How to feed your dragon" - it was very very cool.
