Awww, sorry, Mike ....
She (I'm assuming female) was adorable!
-
Thanks.
She was about 2 years old when she showed up at my door, I've had her as an indoor cat for about 8 years.
She was a good, loving and loyal cat.
My best friend actually.
-
Aww, SHE'S the one you've mention for all these years?
Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss ...
I was just catsitting a cat that looked like her for 3 days and I already miss how she'd greet me at the door when I came home, and/or how she'd actually get under the covers and sleep with me, or she'd high-5 me (I taught her some tricks) ... I still see her a couple times a week, however, having her here was nice for the short time she was with me ... I'd be crushed if it were 8 years of that and then suddenly being without ...
Hell, she's practically my cat (in part) anyway, so I'd be crushed if something happened to her either way ...
-
At least she was not young. SOunds like she had a decent run a it.
-
10 is still not really old for a cat, but yeah she had a good run.
She only started loosing weight over about the last week. She went really fast, within the last 3 days she went from being her old self to being really bony. I didn't realize how serious it was at first because I've been working to get a house ready for a tenant before xmas and she had been hanging out way up on a top shelf in the kitchen quite a bit which I didn't think too much about because my house is usually pretty cold this time of year.
After I got home from dui class late Thursday about 10:00 or so I searched her out and she was holed up in a den she had fashioned for herself long ago in a cabinet my wife used to keep old papers and crap. Over the years she had dug a lot of the papers out so that there was a path down one side and she had hollowed out a place in the back so that it made a snug little den.
When I brought her out and held her I knew she was in serious trouble. I held her for a good while and then she went to the potty box and I opened a can of food for her, she ate a little and licked up all the juice which I though at least was a hopeful sign.
I tried to get her to sleep with me, she did like sleeping under the covers with me quite often, but this night she just wanted back in her den. I think she was afraid she was going to die that night and didn't want to do that to me. First thing in the morning she couldn't stand or crawl all the way out on her own. I raced her to the pet hospital but she was already showing signs of neurological collapse by the time the doctor saw her.
There was nothing else I could do, I had to have her put to sleep, I held her and gave her a kiss as she passed. Once there is a mutual bond It's almost like loosing a child or a wife.
Rest in peace Silky, you were the best cat a person could ever hope to bond with.
Thanks guys.

Awww, Mike ...
At least she was with her loved ones for her final moments and didn't just run off and die alone ...

Been there with a pet I raised from very young... its very hard when you have to put them to sleep.
Sorry about your cat Mike...

Thanks Ian, she was my number 1. Mellow as could be and very affectionate.
My negro hello kitty Merlia is still a cute but annoying, rambunctious and impulsive little adolescent. But she's coming along.

One of our newts has been looking really scrawny for the last week or two. I'm talking wasting away here. Two nights ago we are high, sprinkle some food in, and watch all the crazy feeding frenzy activity going on in our mostly peaceful fishtank. Its one of my favorite things to do stoned. All of a sudden a few of the larger fish (including the gigantic, and until then the most peaceful pleco) are sucking on to the poor skinny salamander, like they knew he was sickly and they wanted to get him before he died and the shrimp found him first. I usually never bang on the tank but I couldn't believe this poor thing was struggling to get out of not one, but two or three fishes' mouths, and struggling unsuccessfully at that. The fish scattered, and we took the liitle guy out, put him in a quart container with some water, foliage, and a few food pellets, so he could actually have a chance at food because clearly he's too slow/dumb to find it in the tank. Found him belly up yesterday evening, none of the pellets touched. The goddamn thing gave up on me after I rescued him.

... and/or how she'd actually get under the covers and sleep with me, ...
Hahaha I remember when I was about 22 and this cat showed up, I was living in a little one bedroom shack and left the window open most of the time. She didn't stay, she came and went from time to time and I gave her treats whenever I had any. I didn't feed her. I called her Candy because she was mostly white and had colored spots that made her look like one of those xmas taffy candies. One night I woke up early morning and I noticed my toes were really toasty for a change. Then I was shocked to feel something soft warm and alien at the foot of the bed-under the covers. How the hell she got down there without waking me up I'll never know because I was tucked in pretty good. But it was quite disconcerting. That was the first time I ever knew a cat that wanted under the covers and did it on her own.

Couldn't funnier if it was Kate's face and she was stuffed inside the microwave instead of in front of it.
OK, maybe it could...
-
Douchebag.
-
Unreasonably self-involved twat.
-
Come on now play nice, Kate can't help it. We just have to accept her as she is like everyone else.
-
Go pick out a new kitten and shut up, you.
-
Alas the irony, I seem to currently find myself adrift... cat-less upon a sea of cats!
Tis quite the strange arrangement.

do you just have a crush on every female on this forum? really?

Hahahahaha NO fucking way! I was being facetious, Kate really is a bitch.
-
Now, if you want my opinion....
-
I'm only a bitch when someone deserves it.
-
When something dear to you dies I'm going to laugh until I piss myself.

Your're going to laugh for twelve seconds?

My bladder isn't that weak. Yet. Though I am starting to have prostate issues... Hmmm.

I would like to revise my post and say Kate CAN be a bitch, she isn't always. And to S I'd like to say "Hey when the fuck did I ever try to hit on you ya fucking curry cake, ... fuck off you dongle wishing elephant girl."
Anyway, to get back to it. I didn't mind Hips story about the little fish or whatever I even enjoyed reading it. I think she was being kind of honest there. And her gay remark, well fuck that's expected here.
So I guess Zoom and Kate have issues that transcend this thread, non of my business. I only chastised them as I would a couple of cats having words at my feet.
Bottom line is I appreciate all the sympathy I've received here. Cats live such shorter lives than we do that if you dare invest your love in them this is going to happen several times during a normal lifetime. Silky was my number 3 number 1.
So yeah, get on with it.
And um
feliz onadog to alla you.
