It's my head, my mind, my non-existent game. Lack of confidence in myself. It's hard for me to be a real social dude, I've always been a loner so going to bars or coffee shops, etc. and actually being bold enough to walk up to a chick who looks cool is nearly out of the question. I rarely drink, because drinking actually makes me worst and I get depressed and turn inward even more so that wouldn't help me. Nearly every girl I've dated or gone out with, had sex with, etc. I have met through the internet. Even starting back in 1999 when I met a chick named SwitchBlade Kitten on Anti-Social.com when the board were first starting. Girls seem to like me when I can break through my own barriers and loosen up and get comfortable, but it's hard to get to that point. It's not just with girls either. Friends, family, anybody. It's just hard for me to make a connection and keep a connection sometimes. I'm afraid of putting myself out there.

Man, I really think OKCupid is where it's at. My sister has been using that site for a few months now, and she is averaging 4 dates per week. I swear. And she has major social anxiety. As in, she can't even talk to cashiers when buying groceries and stuff like that.
I can relate to that empty feeling, I haven't exactly paid money for sex, but back when I was in active addiction I sure did fuck and suck for dope. Not proud of it, but I am not ashamed of myself anymore. It does leave a little dent in the soul though.
Also, I would just like to say that I have been dealing with social issues, anxiety and such. Similar to what you describe. I've tried the typical meds- vallium, xanax, kolonopin, all that shit that I potentially could have become addicted to ( I quit as soon as I started considering selling them) then I moved to antihistamines (odd, I know, but they are non-addictive and make most people drowsy)
I decided I didn't want to have to be dependent on a pill to feel confident enough to take the city bus around so I really made myself concentrate in therapy. (Yes, therapy cuz I am a crazy bitch)
The kind of therapy I was in for two years straight is called Dialectical Behavior Therapy, DBT, but what they teach is so very valuable.
The whole of DBT is based on Buddhist teachings like Nonjudgmental Stance, and Mindfulness.
That is the reason I am not sitting in my bathroom, sobbing like a bitch, carving someone's name into my thigh because they didn't return my call, or because life is "so Hard".....
It is also the reason that I have an actual relationship right now, which is not based on physical or mental abuse, Or based on sex or a mutual exchange of sex and drugs.
Woah, I just said a lot of shit.
Anyway, OK Cupid is much better for you than what's-her-hot-ass-name.

I keep having this mental block of trying to think of something that I need to "finish" or "do" before I can "start" dating again, so I end up not messaging anybody on OKcupid. It's stupid. I know about xanax, kolonopin, severe social anxiety, unbelievable insomnia, depression, and even DBT... my ex-gf has sever social anxiety and depression (carving herself, committed a few times, can't talk to the cashier or look people in the eye) and that was unfortunately a big part of why I couldn't go on any more. She needed to get help and just wasn't wanting to help herself. I researched DBT for her and explained it and even found a therapist in Austin for her and she didn't want to do it. She's a really sweet, smart, caring person but she has many problems and needs years of therapy. I'm glad the DBT helped you!
As for me, I think I'm pretty much anti-social, not anxious per se. I like striking conversations up with cashiers, random people as concerts, my classmates, etc., but if I feel it's getting past that into friendship or building a connection, I feel weird inside and stop it before it starts. I think my issues stem from my father. I barely know the guy - he abandoned the shit out of me after 2nd grade and maybe somehow now deep down when I feel like I could make a connection maybe subconsiously I'm afraid the connection will break and the person will leave forever, like my dad did. So I just don't bother trying to make or keep many connections, sadly.
What I'm afraid of is if this lump in my nipple is cancer... I'm going to have to get over this shit. People are going to want to help me and I have to be open and accepting. I wouldn't want to fight cancer on my own.

Also, I wanted to say that your reasons for not wanting to make connections with people are very valid reasons. Once we have survived a hard crisis, something innate inside us makes attempts to avoid feeling that again. During my childhood, my siblings and I were regularly left home alone, the oldest of us being only 8 when it started. Naturally, I have developed a very big fear of abandonment. I get that totally.
Really, I think Aaron has a good point in having some random and very casual sex. You're young and at a point where your balls are trying to steer you, so maybe you could try some back-seat driving, if you will.
