Title: new music
Post by: FAH-Q on April 25, 2012, 05:15:20 PM
Instead of starting a million new threads that nobody gives a shit about, I figure we could have a catch-all.

Do you guys seek out new music regularly? And by new I just mean new to you, I don't care about whether or not it's contemporary. I've recently rediscovered torrents which makes getting albums the easiest way to do things, and then I just burn mp3 cds with multiple albums and listen to them in my car (which seems to be where I do the vast majority of my music-listening).

The Black Keys.

My favourite new band I've gotten into recently, they fucking rock. Their earlier stuff was OK, but the last three albums have been fantastic. They're on my list of bands I really wanna see live.

Discovery. Indie-pop project of the keyboardist from Vampire Weekend and the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot. They have a couple of really good songs and a few meh ones. Speaking of which...

Ra Ra Riot. I fucking HATE the name of this band, and I think it's made me enjoy their music less than I would've, which is stupid, but there ya go. I like them OK.

Miike Snow. Swedish indie-pop, really fucking good.

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. Best UK hip hop I've heard, probably ever. Best hip hop in general that I've heard recently.

This is a really good band. I only found them the other day. Been listening non stop. : D

These are not the best songs to showcase their talent but right now they're my favourites. xD

Discovery. Indie-pop project of the keyboardist from Vampire Weekend and the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot. They have a couple of really good songs and a few meh ones. Speaking of which...

I love this song! And Ive known it for a while due to ...waitforit.. taptap revenge. A game I have on my itouch. ...and frankly thats kinda embarrassing. D:

Jamie T - Earth, Wind & Fire |Kings & Queens (LP)| (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9s0SJrhxAU#)

(this recommendation came from the same place as the Scroobius Pip one - an english girl I met with awesome taste in movies and music and other good stuff. fun.)

I really like Jamie T. Hadn't heard that song before. The problem is that I'm really lazy when it comes to music so I hear a couple songs of an artist and I cba to download more even if I like them. It's probably for the best, its an expensive habit.

Jamie T - Sticks 'n' Stones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9APEZMeH0o#)     sticks and stones by jamie t.

Nice to see a Melbourne boy get a nod above...

This makes me laugh every time I see it

Yeah, like me, he arrived here as a little kid... There is a common thread in the first 3 clips I posted, they're all Melbourne acts... second two are from Brisneyland. And that's just the very tip of a huge iceberg.

Don't take it personal but I didn't care for that Shelia song much.

Maybe it's because I'm listening on my laptop but it kinda reminded me of a transistor radio in an empty apartment. Umm and I guess I didn't bother trying to understand the message because the sound made me cringe. Sorry.

you posted a song called zombies by a band called judgement day, they play cellos.
I like the song but how is that not 'hipster' ?

Also epicness - on the side of the song zombies was a link to the Sri Visnu Sahasranama - 1000 names of Vishnu.

Something different -
"I'M GONE" by Graveyard Train (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehh6rRlWhgk#)

I really like this.

I do have a beard, semi-thick black glasses, plaid shirts... but dammit I am not a hipster. Austin is full of hipsters, but I tend to stay away from them. Except, 13chemicals.

Great song: M83 - Midnight City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aZFcosBTaQ#) I missed these guys on Friday because tickets were sold out and people on Craigslist were selling theirs for triple the price.

Dan Deacon - Snookered (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W9EOP36Fg0#)

I gots an android app called MusicMate that finds free mp3s and downloads them to the sdcard on my android.
When my oldest daughter got her dads old droid, she found a similar app. Is it legal. Fuck, I dunno.

One of the bands she turned me on to is I Set My Friends On Fire. Purely because they have a scremo cover of "CrankDat SouljaBoy", which is on my phone. Something about an Indian Teenager screaming "Haters gettin mad cuz I got me some BATHIN APES!" makes me giggle.

Well I'll be damned.  This is what I get for taking the word of middle-schoolers. Zee's bestie is Indian/Guyanese *is that the right word? She is of Indian decent but her family moved from Guyana, which has had a good sized Indian population for generations..ya know what I mean* and she said the dude was Indian and I just took her word for it. Kinda like how people would take my word for it if I said someone was Scandinavian or German.

Sounds very math rock, I like the variances in tempo and structure,  in a early Black Sabbath kind of way but much more precise.

Quote from: Melissa
Bob Dylan was big in the 60s-70s; take a good look at the end, think about how Bob Dylan sounded in his music then,
reevaluate your thoughts based on this "translation", up to, and including, the last phrase of the song, and into the harmonica solo ...

I'm thinking she's onto something here ...

Hard Candy was a fucked up movie because she blamed the guy for shit that happened in her life he had no clue about.

She cut his balls off but then killed him anyway.

I'm on her side all the way.

I'll limit the conversation because I really do think Bagman should watch it.

Still worth watching.

I've discovered a shit ton of rad new music lately, mostly thanks to Last.fm and it's recommendations.  That site is a godsend.  I've been really into doomy, psychedelic/stoner, occult rock/metal and retro 70's sounding hard rock/metal, or music that tends to fall near that category.  Fucking great shit.  I call the crystallized form of the sound that I love (that only a few bands actually meet the qualifications of) "Obsidian (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=obsidian)" (help me vote it up plz, fucking cunts are voting it down cuz they are debbie downers). Here are some of the bands that I've gotten into recently:

The Devil's Blood, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Jex Thoth, Blood Ceremony, Subrosa, Black Math Horseman, Barn Burner, Jess And The Ancient Ones, Kvelertak, Rainbows Are Free, Witch, Graveyard, In Solitude, Vinum Sabbatum, Earthless, Stoned Jesus, Ancient VVisdom, Year Of The Goat, Serpentcult, Devil, Asteroid, Ufomammut, Lento, Horisont, The Wounded Kings, Windhand, Kadavar, Saturnalia Temple, Shrinebuilder, The Walking Midget...to name a few :B

Check out my last.fm page if you wanna see everything I listen to...because I know ALL of you fuckers care SO damn much: http://www.last.fm/user/drugmoth (http://www.last.fm/user/drugmoth)

The Pilgrim sounds like they would be up your alley, Danzig. Former very crust punks that went all Sabbath and Pink Faries. http://thepilgrim.bandcamp.com/ (http://thepilgrim.bandcamp.com/)

It's hard not to like what's going on around my town lately...Beach House, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, HardDads, Dope Body, Lower Dens...I could go on and on but I know there's way to many to list. As much as I despise Dan Deacon, I have to give it up to him & Wham City for giving this scene a major revitalization.

I've been digging on the World/Inferno Friendship Society lately, and only part of that has to do with the band opening for them in a few weeks </humbelbrag>. These guys are fucking great. http://www.worldinferno.com/ (http://www.worldinferno.com/)

The best Baltimore show I ever saw was Dope Body, Hollywood, Sick Weapons, and Double Dagger when I was volunteering at the Hexagon.  It was easy to pay attention when I basically getting drunk and seeing a show every night of the week.  Now I barely go out, even when I have friends in bands that I really should go see.

Revisited.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0NFGgl7Cqs# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0NFGgl7Cqs#)

Dishonored ending credit song

honour for all,
of the big and the small,
well the taller they stand,
well the harder they fall,
we live for today,
but we die for the next,
with blood in our veins,
and the air in our chest,
so we step into war,
with our hearts on the line,
the dirt on our boots,
that is free over time,

The music it fades,
the violin slows,
the darkness it rises,
as the sun goes,

Love is a distant aroma at best,
A withering smile that's stuck deep within your vest,
At night air it wraps its fingers around,
Your body it shakes from the now distant sound,
Of the sound of her voice,
A sweet symphony,
played over and over Until' you are free,

The music it fades,
the violin slows,
darkness it rises,
as the sun goes,

Can you feel the new day rising,
Climbing up the
East horizon,
they can't hold us,
now we'll fight through,
these hands,
everyone will start new,

well we shall not stumble,
no we shall not fall,
we shall not crumble,
no we shall stand tall,
with death it will come as sore as the night,
but we will not run,
no we live but to fight,
with blood on our hands and dirt on our knee's,
we'll tear at the ones who brought the disease,

The music it fades,
the violin slows,
the darkness it rises,
as the sun goes,

Can you feel the,
new day rising,
climbing up the,
east horizon,
they can't hold us,
now we'll fight through,
each and everyone will start new,

can you feel the,
new day rising,
climbing? up the,
east horizon,
they can't hold us,
now we'll fight through,
each and everyone will start new

Dishonored Theme song : Drunken Whaler Full version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww0sZrwl7Ck#)

Published on Sep 14, 2012
The song Drunken Whaler from Dishonored

What will we do with a drunken whaler,
What will we do with a drunken whaler,
What will we do with a drunken whaler,

Early in the morning?

Early in the morning.

Way hey, and up she rises,
Way hey, and up she rises,
Way hey, and up she rises,

Early in the morning.

Stuff him in a sack and throw him over
Stuff him in a sack and throw him over
Stuff him in a sack and throw him over

Early in the morning.

Feed him to the hungry rats for dinner,
Feed him to the hungry rats for dinner,
Feed him to the hungry rats for dinner,

Early in the morning.

Way hey, and up she rises,
Way hey, and up she rises,
Way hey, and up she rises,

Early in the morning.

Shoot him through the heart with a loaded pistol
Shoot him through the heart with a loaded pistol
Shoot him through the heart with a loaded pistol

Early in the morning.

Slice his throat with a rusty cleaver,
Slice his throat with a rusty cleaver,
Slice his throat with a rusty cleaver,

Early in the morning.

Way hey, and up she rises,
Way hey, and up she rises,
Way hey, and up she rises,

Early in the morning.

Its lyrics (such as they are) are a biography of Ric Flair. The cross has no meaning.
