Do any of you use e-readers?
I realized recently that I don't read near so much as I used to, even though I have nothing BUT time these days, so I started trying out e-readers. Last year I bought a Nook color, which was nice and all, but I ended up rooting it and throwing a Cyanogenmod build of Android Gingerbread on it and then it was more of a cheap tablet than anything else, and I didn't really like using it as an e-reader because of having to fremember to keep it charged all the damn time. Sold it to a friend a few months ago and used the money to buy a 32 GB HP Touchpad during the big fire sale, rooted it because the WebOS apps suck shit, and I have it running Cyanogenmod's beta Ice Cream Sandwich Android build on it, but turns out it's too damn heavy to really use as an e-reader comfortably, and there's still the same problem of having to charge it constantly (which I made a little easier by buying the wireless charging dock for it.)
So recently Barnes & Noble had a father's day special on the Nook Simple Touch e-reader and I bought one for 80 bucks. I've always wanted to try an e-ink reader but didn't really feel like shelling out the money for one of the new ones, but this one was current tech and cheap. Just came in the mail this morning, and now I'm scouring the house looking for something to use as a reading lamp. Damn, this think has a darkish/grey screen that's impossible to read under the single flourescent bulb in my living room. I may take it outside to the park across the street in a bit when it finishes charging to see if it works as well in sunlight as the ads say, but it's not like I'm gonna go reading out in the park every day, I'm too lazy for that.
Any of you have any experience with e-ink readers and finding ways to light them up to read them?

I don't really know what e-ink is, but I have a pretty early-gen kindle that requires exactly the same amount of light as a regular book, to my eyes. I charge it maybe once a month, and read daily.
-
Yeah, that's e-ink. This one's the new "E=ink Pearl" technology that's supposed to be really clear and readable.

I honestly find very little difference between regular books and the kindle, or my sony reader for that matter (I have way more books loaded onto the kindle, so I use that much more). There's an occasional formatting error, but nothing major.

$80? If you're that desperate to get rid of your money just give it to me.
Seriously.
I'm not joking. Please?

I've been thinking about it but don't have one. People from another board who work in publishing have recommended the Kindle with the WiFi and 3G, or the Kindle Fire, told me they are much easier to read than a paper book.

Yeah, I almost went for a kindle even though I don't really like the way they do business, but then remembered it has no epub support, as well as other issues, so I went with the Nook instead.

Do you have to deal with Google?

For the Nook? Nah, they don't have much to do with Google so far as I know. I just logged in my B&N account name and password and downloaded all the books I'd already bought on my Nook Color, good to go.

I might get a Nook or Kindle, but I'm wary about buying a book new when I can get a used copy cheaper.

Melissa has a Kindle Touch and she loves it ...

Goddamn. Maybe it's just my bad eyes or I don't know what, but I cannot seem to read this damn thing, even with a reading lamp (with a low-watt flourescent bulb, sure, but still). I may have to RMA this fucker, or find someone to sell it to on craigslist maybe.

I think Niyta is ready to bite.

I have an iPad and iBooks and I read all the freebies I can get.

Yeah, I still have my HP Touchpad and I'm thinking of buying a new phone with a 4" screen soon that might be easy enough to read books on, but yeah, e-ink and I are incompatible it seems. I told my mother tpo stop by and see if she can read anything on it. If she can I'll probably just give it to her.

My wife and both have Nooks, and we use them constantly. In fact, I'm typing on mine right now. It's neat.

There's a lot of cool games for the Kindle ...
... I LOVE the word games for it
