Title: Dog packs
Post by: Tru on October 01, 2012, 03:46:41 PM
I'm sorry for you dog owners if you don't keep your dogs fenced in or chained.

I was attacked by a dog pack last night while riding my bike. At least a half dozen dogs charged me out of the blue. I got bit on the leg before I could get away. I almost crashed into a trailer parked on the street.
I was not carrying a weapon. That will not be the situation next time.

Went back with the car intending to deliberately run over any dog I saw. There were none to be found in a 4 block radius.

Next time regardless of any bites there will be dog guts in the street.

Some of the people in my neighborhood have pitbulls that they don't secure very well. It caused me a lot of mixed emotions for the first 2 years I lived there because the city put stray pits/pit mixes to sleep. Then they changed that policy.

The Pitbulls never bothered me, but there are a lot of kids in my neighborhood that would get all freaked out and start throwing sticks at them and running off...that is just asking for problems.

Oddly enough, the pitbulls were always scared off my property by my cat Storm. The neighborhood kids are too. They told my oldest daughter once, "Hey. Stay away from that cat. He's mean." Z was like "That's my cat" and reached down and petted him. Cracks me up because Storm is a total cuddlebug inside.

Pitt bulls are especially evil, you should be careful.

My neighbor has a Pitt that he tried to give to me as a puppy, I've been over there hundreds of times and paid special attention to the fucker, yet he would still bite my balls of at the first opportunity.

I know they are not stupid so wtf? Evil is the only classification I have for Pitt bulls.

Pitbulls remind me of Chihuahuas. Really big Chihuahuas.

I love Chihuahuas. I had this horribly abusive babysitter when I was about 6 years old. The only positive thing I learned from her was how to care for chis because she had a "teacup chihuahua". Also my late Grandma got a minpin/chihuahua mix when I was 8. Grandma spoiled him. He was the son she never had. I ended up "inheriting" him when I was 14 and Grandma died. She said I understood him better than most.

He was a true Alpha Male. The fact that he was babied didn't help. Despite my promise to her, I got him fixed (she kept say "he would be such a good daddy". But she never allowed him to breed and he was 7 years old and I was sick of him humping my arm every so often). He had a lot of teeth removed since Grandma gave him "people food".  Eventually, he learned his place. He still had to be restrained from some people. He got to be a "daddy" to an abused Ch I got when I was 17. He got old and arthrictic and developed cateracts and seemed to only see a little bit, but he still acted all "benny Badass" as my dad called it. Got maced by the maillady. She was so upset she maced a blind dog. I was like "good. Hopefully he'll figure out your not worth it." He learned.

He died when I was 28. Right before I got married. He had been in Doggy End Stage Renal Failure for years, but he had too much pep in him to be put to sleep. Every time he slowed down a bit, my mom would say " Well.. he is very old..." and he would perk right up like "fuck you. I'm not ready yet". One night, he climbed into Mom's bed, snuggled in, and just fell asleep and died peacefully

Ok I'm rambling... to be honest, I smoked a bowl before writing because I was waiting for this benadryl to kick in... stupid Sulfa allergy..

What I was trying to get at was that Chihuahuas and Pitbulls are very tempermental breeds. If you baby them, they become agressive. If you try to "toughen them up", they become agressive. Finding the right balance is tricky, but needs to be done. I can't stand to see these breeds used as status symbols only to
End up in shelters or abandoned or put to sleep because of stupid humans.

As for the Pitts in my neighborhood, the ones that made it near me were mostly curious. There was one I had to kinda stare down one winter while shoveling snow

I've watched over a hundred videos now and across the board police never hesitate even in the least to shoot attacking pit bulls or other charging dogs. Why should the average person be denied the right to protect themselves from this potential catastrophic encounter? Shit, by the time the cops arrive you could be dead!

And don't assume a single shot will suffice, I've watched pits getting shot multiple times and still running away.

No offense intended Thrash and I do know how much you love your dog, (I actually love dogs too) but in a national catastrophe pit bulls as wild animals in the urban environment will be one of the first priorities survivors will have to face and put down, or for the frail men, women and children who come across them, succumb trying with no hope.

Hell man, I'm pretty sure that was a pitt that bit me, and if it had gained a good purchase on my leg and pulled me off my bike I might not be here to post today. It was obviously a family pet and showed none of these characteristics to it's family, nevertheless after dark when people were inside it became one of a pack because it was able to escape it's yard and have an adventure.

People say the owners are to blame, and to a point that is true, but it also resides in the pack mentality taking over when they have any chance of escaping their yards.

I missed the "pack" part ...
Yeah; THAT is just a tad dangerous ...

At least a half dozen came after me. Might have been only five but still at least that many.
If I hadn't been able to speed away ...

I mean if I weren't at least capable of peddling fast enough to leave them behind I would have been in serious trouble. They weren't just playing at chase the bike. They wanted blood.

I fear for other people who aren't as athletic as I and shit, I'm almost 60.

My cat has his own dog.

I got bit by a pitt bull about 5 years ago. He chomped down on my arm so hard Isaw yellow stuff plop down on the floor from out of his mouth. Had to go to the hospital and get 8 stitches. I never blamed the dog though and I don't hate the breed. I've known plenty of nice silly pitts.

Tape worm segments. you should be able to get something over the counter for that. They have Tape Worm Tabs for cats. About $18 for three tabs, but it usually only takes one dose (1 tab) to clear them out.

You can always give him a penny to swallow. Thats how they did it on the farm. I think it has to be old though so its actually copper.

Maybe when pennies were made of copper, You can melt a penny with a bic lighter today because they are 90% scrap zinc. A copper penny wouldn't digest much, a current copper flash coated zinc penny would probably poison the dog.

Yea i got him some stuff from petco.. a powder you sprinkle on the food once daily for 3 days.. it was about $20... seems like it did the trick.
