I wanna make an online portfolio of sorts for my artwork. I also want to make a website for work. I know how to make pretty pictures but I don't know how to make a website to contain the pretty pictures. I don't know anything about html or any of that crap. Someone please tell me if there is a program or something that I can get where I just pop the pictures/ words in and it gives me the layout code or whatever to use for the site. I don't know if I have the patience to sit down with an html book and learn it so some kind of program like this would probably be the best for me.
Help.

Get FrontPage and go nuts.
-
Buy one of them template packages ?
or
wait for somebody here to do it for you.

FrontPage is ok.
Homestead is pretty easy but not free.

Or you might try WebDwarf (free)

I never use these wysiwyg editors but they do work pretty well.
Creating your page/s is only one step though, you also have to have a domain to upload it all to.
I use www.sitesled.com They offer free web space as long as you actually make a functional web page.
They don't like for people to just use their servers as storage. It's easy to sign up though and I have never had any problems with them. I've set up several sites there for other people. They do allow image hotlinking.
They also have a message board where you can get any questions answered
edit:
Oh yeah, you'll also need an ftp client to access your pages. Sitesled does have an online site manager but it is still easier to use an ftp client to upload and modify your content.
FtpSurfer is free and pretty easy to use.

How to:

Pay someone who knows what they're doing to do it for you. The internet has enough bad design already.
-
Steal someone elses...
-
Netscape used to have a WYSIWYG editor built-in, but I don't know if Mozilla does or not. They probably still make one, though.
-
>>Steal someone elses...<<
Precisely! It's actually pretty easy to copy the format (ie steal) a site that has the look you want.
Then simply replace all the text and images with your own.

There used to be a flash based site that hosted artist portfolios really nicely and I think it was free too. I've dispatched my minions across the net to see if it's still around and will let you know what the word is.
-
You have minions?
Where'd you get them? Are the monkey shaped with bat wings? Do they fling feces when they're irritated? Can I get some?
-
All of the above. You can't buy them though, you have to earn them.
-
You ask me nicely and I show you and host it for you for free like I do a bunch of other losers here and on TSi?

Can I pay you in tit pics?
edit: kidding
-
To do HTML well you need to learn CSS and it takes a while. I think if you tickle Lucas's balls he'll do it for you however

I'd ask you for space but I honestly wouldn't know what to put on a website, really. Last website I actually tried to make was on geoshitties or something back in 1998 and it really, really sucked.
-
I'll give ANYONE space from here (and on TSi) that asks for it ...
-
and if you do want to figure it out on your own, get the "Missing Manuals" series of books. HTML and CSS will see you right.

Dayum.

Nobody seems to remember the site I'm looking for.
Sorry tricky.
-
Nobody needs piss ass ass (css) to make a standard web page.

Two pieces of advice:
1) create a blog on wordpress, and host pictures there
2) create flickr site, and host pictures there
If you want to put up some kind of REAL website, though, I can give other advice.
Don't worry about what everyone else said. There's no reason to do ANY kind of HTML stuff anymore for 99.9% of people.
