Title: If you are in the States or even if you are not, who are you voting for...
Post by: Daddy on October 30, 2012, 04:50:13 PM
Even if you could vote or can't due to citizenship or whatever, that is, if you care about this sort of thing.

Myself, on the national impact scale, I'm voting for Libertarian Congressional candidate, Keith Blanford, in my district.

And for President, Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate for President.

I am writing in "Commander Poopy-Pants" for every single office.

And the only things I actually care about: Yes on gay marriage, No on casinos.

I am independant of any party, but have some Libertarian leanings.
I will most likely vote for Gary Johnson for prez
For the other shit, I just hold my nose and pick the least offensive one.

Zach already voted for Johnson and my Father-in-Law is the local Libertarian Party Tresurer who also voted early too. We have a Gary Johnson sign in our front yard. I keep expecting the neighbors in my almost-ghetto neighborhood to ask me who he is.

If I could split ALL of the candidates and take the best from them all, I'd be happy ...
However, I can't, thus, I just don't care ....
I'll be ok either way ...

I just hope the rest of you will be as well ...

I'm boycotting this election. I don't think the vote means anything anyway.

They just tell us what the results were and how else would we know.

I don't actually have a vote, but I'd vote for him if I did. I certainly don't think he's a saint, but I dislike Romney enough to think it's important that Obama gets another term.

About a week ago, the consensus was about -210/+170 in favour of Obama. I looked again this morning, and everyone's up nearer -300/+240 right now.

And fwiw, as has been the case for all four elections I've been around for, the public likes the republican candidate.

The republican and democratic parties are a duopolistic dictatorship.  The mass media is run by the R & D and keeps the libertarians down.  The Republican party especially has fought tooth and nail to keep Gary Johnson off the ballots, and he is still not going to be on the ballot in a few states because they are fighting him.  They also fought to keep him out of the debates.  Gary Johnson tried to sue them twice for fucks sake, with a class action lawsuit (they managed to keep him down).  Why are they fighting him?  Because they are scared of the message, and scared of it getting out, because they know it would be a popular one.  If you think Obama or Romney are more trustworthy and would do a better job at president than Gary Johnson, than you probably don't know what the fuck is going on.  Live free, vote libertarian.

(and don't give me that defeatist attitude bullshit, because if everyone who thought Gary Johnson would make a good president voted for him, he would win....OR the wasted vote bullshit.  The only wasted vote is voting for someone you don't believe in)

The interesting thing about elections and politics in general is that odds makers, or something like Intrade, tend to get things right.

Pundits are basically useless.  They're not informative, their predictions are frequently wrong, and they play up the drama.  Same for pollsters, really.  The data they give on the news typically seems to be geared towards making things look tight and exciting.

I like a lot of what Gary Johnson stands for, and he was great in Team America. But if I had a vote, and lived in a state that could go either way, I'd vote Obama, just to try and keep Romney from winning.

As it happens, if I did jump through all the hoops necessary to vote, it would be in NY. So if that were the case, I'd definitely vote for a 3rd party candidate, since NY is pretty much a lock for Obama, no?

That's the argument I don't get. They agree on almost everything only varying on degree. For instance they went back and forth about 3% on a tax rate, before. Wow, totally contrasting vision for America.

Well maybe Jesse Venture / Howard Stern 2016 will have enough star power to get the libertarians some attention.

I don't really give a fuck about the tax rate, compared to social issues.

Does the VP have to be natural born?

Jesse Ventura/Arnie 2016... it'd be like Predaitor

Arnie's a bush buddy asshat. They, (won't say we) recalled Gray Davis because of the budget deficit after Enron looted Ca to help bush finance 911, and now since Arnie we are in twice as deep shit.

I don't really give a fuck about the tax rate, compared to social issues.

And that's why I'm glad you're not voting in America.
