Hey did you know?
That even while Japanese Americans born in America were being detained in internment camps in the US, the Nazi POW's brought to several prisoner of war camps in the southern US were given special privileges? There is a lot of documentation on this.
They were allowed to have almost complete control over their own prison and were allowed passes to frequent the local establishments. At a time when a black US SERVICEMAN could not do the same thing in the south.
People loved Hogan's Hero's back in the day but the reality is the German POW's here in the states exemplified the entire concept of the inmates being in charge. And may have actually been an inspiration for the show.
I hate to say it again, but many very powerful people in the US were in support of the Nazi's from the get go. Some corporations such as Standard Oil were so powerful that when called on their Nazi support through out the war they simply told the government to shut up! And the .gov backed down.

I've heard of this as well ...
It's been years since I've read about this ...
I'm thinking I'm going to try and find that article again ...
-
It's a story that really needs more exposure for us to understand government today.
-
Yeah, I can't find that article I read about it ...
I'm going to have to look deeper into this ...

White privilege...

Well a lot of those were probably either turned scientists or intelligence or something, I'd imagine, that made deals to get out from under the Nazi regime. Not everyone supported the Third Reich, you ever see Valkyrie?
-
I thought the same thing ....
Wasn't, like, 12% of Hitler's army Jewish and just successfully hiding there?
-
Haha probably something like that.

It was easy enough to falsify documents ...
They also recruited HEAVILY (read as: join or die) ...
