I have ALL 168 episodes of "The Flintstones", 169 if you include the pilot ...
I heard this in my teens and had to replay it ....
What do YOU think it means?
Barney Rubble from the Flintstones Needs 3 Heads? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC2D14fBtow#lq-lq2-hq)
-
A side note; Wilma says "bollocks", slang for "penis/balls" in the 60's .....
.... and it gets past the censors
The Flintstones - Wilma says 'bollocks' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuCbrPzPLAc#lq-lq2-hq)
Anyway, what does the first video mean?
I think the censors were on strike that week, or something ...
-
bollocks is still in use...
I'm surprised a term so British made its way into something so American...

well, way back then everything was just a part of pangea, so...
-
Well, it was made around the "British Invasion" time ....
-
still... I'd have thought that it really wouldnt have entered th US vocab...
I mean, like "wank". From what I can tell, that's only fairly recently entered regular usage in the US.
-

Why would you think that? It's a bunch of bollocks, you bloody wanker.
-
I mostly think it because youse had your own slang for bollocks and wank.
-
I was kidding, I just wanted to say bollocks, bloody, and wanker.....which I would normally never say and think of as totally English or Aussie or whatever.
Oh, and do you guys say Dude or Sweet at all? Cuz I day those words all the time.
-
We have all the American slang.
-
That's not fair. Do you say wicked and hella too?
-
Yup, them as well.
-
but apparently they only sat ATM when they mean ass to mouth.
-
damn wordfilters
-
No No No.
It's always ATM = "Cash Machine"
Unless im talking to my grandmother.. or Mosh.
-
Well you're a bit off in your interpretation of the second link Dave.
What she said was "Bolix (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bolix)"
-
I suggest that word is a corrupted spelling of bollocks. Bolix as listed in that dictionary has the definition equal to a known usage of bollocks.
Edit : nm, I just remembered I havent viewed the clip.
-
Hahaha

Well, that clip uses the word bollocks in the correct fashion... or at least the way I'm used to hearing the word bollocks used.
-
Balls to that clip. It's unamerican.
-
Amen, brother!
-
Ok, but what about the FIRST clip?
-
Ew, Barney talked about his wang.
-
*bangs head against his desk*
-

-

I do, but then I'm some kinda weird hybrid.
That's not fair. Do you say wicked and hella too?
Hella is mainly a Cali thing, no? As for wicked, it's been in use as an adjective for years in England, but not as an adverb, Massachusetts-style.
Englandish: "Ebeneezer Goode is a wicked song. Quality!"
New Englandish: "Theo Epstein is wicked smaht. Getting Jason Bay for Manny was a great trade!"*
*If you have to ask, you don't need to know.

ROFL. It's funny cuz it's true!
-
Of course, there IS a new england in australia ... but yeah. nm.
-
Yeah, Starshark lives there, last I heard.
-
*continues banging head against desk*
-
You're going to get a headache.
-
or a new desk!
-
Apparently there are a lot of British people that don't know that there is a New England, and that I live there.
-
Ok, but what about the FIRST clip?
-
First clip? Are we talking about foreskins again?
-
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England...
-

I only found out sometime in the last 6 months. It's annoying. Apparently there's a London in Canada as well.
And yet we're still waiting for a New Wales...
-
Unlike the Ozzers, we have far too much respect for the Welsh to do that.
-
We didnt even bother naming it after all of Wales either, just south Wales.
The Kiwi's had New Ulster, New Leinster & New Munster, but no New Connaught.
-
I've also never heard of a new Truro or Penzance.
-
Ok, but what about the FIRST clip?
