Cash/credit card.
JR rail pass, I'll post details where these can be obtained in the US.
Renting a phone.
Meeting point. Who'se getting into Japan first? Is it me?
-
JR rail passes can be bought at these establisments in the US:

FAX (212) 259-9705
JALPAK (JTB GLOBAL TRAVEL INC.) Houston Office 4900 Woodway Dr., Suite 510, Houston , TX 77056 TEL +1 800 776 5575
FAX +1 713 658 1932
JALPAK (JTB GLOBAL TRAVEL INC.) Miami Office 6505 Blue Lagoon Drive, Suite 105 , Miami , FL 33126 TEL +1 800 343 7173
FAX +1 305 269 3013
I strongly recommend buying one of these, it'll cost around US$300, but it'll pay for itself for train travel in Japan.

Passport. Christ on a crutch if I forget that I'm retarded.
Digital camera.
Are electrical outlets in Japan different then the ones in the US? Do I need to get some sort of converter thingamabob?
Rapex, at least two.
p.s. thanks for that info Mosh!
Do I need to get money converted in the US? Will they take my regular old Mastercard in Japan?
Excuse me if I ask a lot of dumb questions. I don't know any better. The furthest I've traveled is Costa Rica.

Did a guy pay for your CR trip? Did you ditch him and fuck some other dude(s)?
-
That was a family trip. I was 15, gimme a break. :P
-
I think you may've missed my reference!
-
I... did... please refresh my memory?
Did Manda fuck another dude?
-
Hopefully!
But no, this is a reference to someone else. Someone very near and dear to you.
-
It was a bagman reference...
And Si, what you doing in here????
Brook, US appliances should work fine in japan, I think the outlets and plugs are the same, and the voltage definately is.
Mastercard will work in Japan for purchases, but the only places you can withdraw cash are at Post Office ATM's or Foreign bank ATM's (Citibank or BoA, etc...). Buy a couple hundred dollars worth of Japanese cash at your departing airport, just to be safe.
The rapex is to stop Dave, right?

Travelling vicariously through you lot?
Nah, truth of the matter is that I'm kinda OCD and therefore the idea of just not reading a forum on this board is a little scary.

Also me.

Meeting point. Who'se getting into Japan first? Is it me?
We haven't actually bought our tickets yet, but I think the plan was to arrive around 2pm or so.
-
OK, if thats the case, I arrive first. I'll come back out to meet you fuckers.
-
please read the other thread which contains the plan, and recommend adjustments THERE.
-
Lol - so much for the Japan forum so we could keep our shit out of other people's view.
Tricky: Bring 30,000 yen cash, for everything else, there's mastercard. Just don't make Kyle's assumption that US banks with no presence in Japan would have ATMs everywhere...

No.
-
The goal was two-fold:
1. Not be annoying like the RT people and make people who can't make the trip have to read all our stuff
2. Avoid me having the same conversation multiple times with multiple people
I guess #2 is going to work... but I'd forgotten we have more mods than members
-
I'll try not to spam up the board, but I hate being cut out of any part of any board.
-
Well.. it's April now. Can you rustle up 2 grand by November?
-
Haha no. I wish man. I'm some double-digit thou in the hole these days. I live on loans.
...I bet Japan is beautiful in November.

I wont mention the secret forum....
yes it does exist.
please read the other thread which contains the plan, and recommend adjustments THERE.
Considering this thread existed first, I dont think it was innappropriate.
-
Oh the other thing was I wasnt able to keep the other mods out... everyone else however cannot see this board.

Low blow.

I knew there was something we should have cleaned up first...

On a random website it says that often times the bathrooms don't have toilet paper; true or false?
Also it says that all the toilets are actually holes in the floors; true or false?
I guess I'll be wearing a lot of skirts...
-
not true
true
goody!
-
1. Train stations and public toilets -> True
2. True -> In older places. Women normally carry around a couple of small packs of tissues.
However, there are convenience stores (such as 7/11) on just about every corner and they almost always have a western bathroom. Same with department stores and the suchlike. Hotels and modern shops will be western.
