OK guys, lets hear your list of foods you want to try. I will line up Okonomiyaki, Yakitori, Shushi/Sashimi & Tonkatsu/Tempura at some point on this venture but there's a lot more meals to fill!
As for drink, you can get anything that's available in the US plus unlimited ranges of Sake, Shochu and Awamori.
What else would you peeps like to try? Suppon? Fugu? Yakiniku?
I'm budgeting 500 - 1,000 yen for lunches and 3,000 - 5,000 for dinner and drinks. Cultural point - the way Japanese people normally pay the bill is by splitting the total cost rather than working out what each person had. In fact, you'll almost never get an itemized list. People will just do a casual adjustment for those who didn't drink much or anything. However, there is no tipping so it's generally cheaper than the equivalent dinner in the US.

How about some Japanese schoolgirl tempura?
I'd be happy with eating sushi/ tempura/ udon etc. every day for dinner.
I don't know what all those words mean. I know some Japanese food words (used to work at a Japanese restaurant).
What do people eat for breakfast there?
Also, lets split the horse plate. :D
I'm pretty adventurous with food. I don't want to eat any endangered species, though.
I'll try some blowfish if everyone else does. I hope there is a hospital nearby, though... what if I'm allergic?

I forgot noodles.... Udon and Ramen will be had at lunch. On in the case on Ramen more likely an adventurous 3am.

Mmm. So much good food. Probably the best I had was at the Tsujiki fish market. It was some sort of fried fish that was incredible. I liked the pigs feet too. The only two things I didn't care for, were this Korean cabbage shite that Nick had me taste the first night, and chicken heart (the texture was gnarly). Every other meal was great. I never once felt queasy, etc. I may have to make a trip to the local Fiesta to pick up some pigs feet. Keeps your skin healthy and young, according to Nick.
One of my favorite things about the trip was the foods.

I won't try blowfish, though. Sorry - it can't taste THAT good.

Nick, I'm afraid you're setting my expectations too high. :-\
When will we have time to eat all of this!??!
-
yes. yes we will!

I don't like sake. I guess you guys will have so much of it around all the time that I may end up liking it or really really hating it by the end of the trip.
-
I dont like sake either, but luckily there are other spirits... I dont know its real name, but theres a potato spirit that mixed with green tea is great.
-
shochu
and yes, you will both drink such copious amounts of both that this conversation will become irrelevant faster than the Yankees new stadium

I don't like sake.
i don't like what's normally served in the US - hot, filtered sake.
i DO like cold, unfiltered sake though. sort of sweet - very nice.
