Chrysler declares it's poorly-designed ass bankrupt
Is this the beginning of the end for UAW?
-
I prefer not to think about it.
-
I don't care.
-
with a whimper
-
Critics don't die; they just get bad reviews.
-
I'm wondering about Pontiac. When that division no longer exists what will they rename the town in Michigan? Welcome to Nonexistent, MI. Population: 0
Actually since Saturn is going too, can we just rename Pontiac and Saturn what they were: "plastic piece of shit"?
And is the military still going to get Hummers after production on the commercial model stops? Will they still call them Swiss Deathtraps?
And if we can't pinch our passenger everytime we pass a PT Cruiser and gleefully shout "PT Pinch!" can we blast one a proclaim "Ford Fart!"
Fuck the UAW, these are the burning questions.
-
One thing that wont change, the rest of the world will still think US cars are shit.
-
right, this just reinforces that view.
Any time you have a company with unionized workers making product that is worse that the company with non-unionized workers then you're in trouble.
Shame to see the Saturn go. I thought that was actually profitable
-
They're not completely dead. Fiat bailed their asses out.
-
almost.
The US tax payer bailed their asses out. Fiat is getting a manufacturing and distribution network, license to cut what it doesn't like, and free reign to sell it's product under the Chrysler umbrella with the assistance of your government.
But Fiat is Italian so I bet they fuck this up somehow.
-
Fuck cars. Bikes are the future. I've been saying that for years.
Then I saw Top Gear which pretty well corrupted my fooling mind, but still...
-
They designed garbage while counting on making money on the financial side.
I only lament the loss of American auto manufacturers because I think the US has been extremely short-sighted in gutting domestic manufacturing.
-
if you ever get a chance, read "The Great Game Of Business" - it's about an American manufacturer who got it right
-
I'm only reading non-fiction right now.
-
... I think the US has been extremely short-sighted in gutting domestic manufacturing.
I'm not sure it's simply short sightedness or if it's part of a larger move to disenfranchise the common American. Yeah yeah but I can't help it.
-

HAHAHAHA Fiat Punto's and Panda's badged as Chryslers.
Oh man... This has been coming for years, ever since Honda and Toyota had the best selling models in the US. Surely that should have told GM, Ford and Chrysler something.
Pity about Pontiac though... Holden make a decent car that was sold as Pontiac in the US. Having looked at some of the Pontiac models over the last few years, I'm surprised they lasted this long.
-
Pontiac is droping the holden rebadges.
-
Yeah... and the rest of their "line".
I'm going to go test drive this tomorrow.

I'd swear they were 17s.... The low profile rubbers throws me off a bit, but the fender gap ? .. hmm. ~shrug.
other than that nice leather. and fuck me they even listed the Intermittent Wipers hahaha.
-
The gap in the arches looks ok to me, but youre right, they look like 17's (my current car has 17's on it)... I figured the 6litre was a bit much.
Its a fair bit of kit... I like the DVD player in back... I'll take the GF up the mountains, stick in some porno and christen the car.
-
1 - "6 Litres was a bit much" ..... nope, you aint a bogan after all.
2 - The kit is nice, its a nice ride overall, the blue/white combo is smooth.
3 - Is there some reason you need porno to fuck ya misses ? ha.
-
Nah, I dont, but its a novelty in a car...
-
then that 2 things that dont make you a bogan.
and i wasent refering to the fender ( yes, i have been watching tooo much nascar ) gap as panel gap, just as point of reference to how i decided they were 17s. Which is really stupid given I have the constant of the wheel nuts to go by.
tip : if you do what this car, and they are 17s, dont mention them durring your haggle. then offer a deposit if your happy with the price, check the papers, if it mentions 18s. throw ya cash down, then come back later on and say they have swaped the wheels. I did that once to my advantage. watchout they dont try to give you cheap ass rubber though... o make SURE they are 17s first ha. yeah, could backfire.
-
Regardless of what the companies do, the whole state of Michigan is fucked. Worst unemployment rate in the nation and only going to get worse. I don't know how they will turn it around either, everything is completely fucked.
-
My husband works for one of GM's companies and my mom works for the UAW.
We are pretty much screwed. My poor mom, especially. She's been a secretary for the regional office for almost ten years. The amount of money she makes is practically obscene and there is no way any other company would hire her on in a secretarial position for even half of what she's getting paid now.
-
I know it sucks for you. But I must ask.
Do you feel that your mother deserved the amout she was paid ? and im not sure about the UAW, but over here the workers pay for the Unions wages.. ? Just courious if you have seen more waste of money.. you know. umm. yeah.. .
-
She works hard, harder than any of the other secretaries in her office. She makes fewer mistakes, takes less vacations, does more volunteering, and is the only one who can manage to show up on time every day. She works for every penny she makes and she deserves it, yeah.
-
She works haaaaard for the money,
So haaaard for it, honey,
She works haaard for the money,
So you better treat her right!
-
I think the obvious solution to the problems at GM, as well as the rest of the economic problems in the USA is to go back in time and murder that no good nazi sympathizer Prescott Bush.
-

I bought it. The wheels are definately 18's, everything works fine. And I screwed them down to $30k. The dealer was on the other side of town, and he wasnt used to dealing with people from where I live (Somerton is a very bogan part of town, Blackburn isnt).... So I had a lil advantage there, and I just screw them til there werent no more blood to give. They'll still make money on it, but I got it a good price.
-
Indeed you did. Very good.
-

The panel gaps all look an even 3 millimetres... Audi size, and the fit looks good. The only thing I really dont like about this model is the front wheel arches... they're over done.

The big problem with Chrysler is design. They made some kickass trucks (I know, I have one) and sports cars since Daimler got involved. But their daily driver models were shit. They freely admit that the PT Cruiser, Breeze and Neon models sold like hotcakes but were severely heavy and underpowered, leading to very poor fuel economy. But people were buying them so why fix something if it ain't broke in the eyes of the consumer? Fuck em, I can get parts for my sport short at any junk yard.
-
yep. a lot of this situation comes down to the addage about voting with your wallet.
there's a lot of factors that went into WHY people "voted" the way they did, but it still comes down to the fact that people bought the trash, so companies made the trash.
hey, speaking of which, i wonder if any of the entertainment giants are going to crumble this summer!
-
I bet you that the tourism industry is gonna get shit on. Disney must be freaking out.
-
I like the look fo the PT. Never considered buying on.
I think the PT drop top is the ugliest car on the planet.
-
I bet you that the tourism industry is gonna get shit on.

US universities are staring at a world of pain
-
I hope Australian univeristies wont be... I got apartments that need tennents
-
You know UC, the schools everywhere are basically networked just like the major corporations.
This financial thing is just an excuse for all of them to raise tuitions. None of them are worth what they cost
and if you can afford it you can go to where ever you like and get "bonafide" without having to do shit.
US Universities are a part of the machine and will appear to the public as programed.
-
I had a chance to go to Harvard - basically a banker friend said he could guarantee my acceptance.
Hmm... 2 year MBA @ $250,000.... no thanks
-
Plus, you'd have to learn how to say "haaaaa-vaaaad"
-
The first syllabyl is worth $125K, the second is worth $125K.
Money well spent.
-
Those Hahvahd kids are wicked smaht.

US universities are staring at a world of pain
They're saying England's universities are money wise undernourished too. Bullshit if ever I heard it.
-

At the risk of getting MiB at my door, I agree.
As long as H.W. gets neutered in the cockpit of his fighter as well.

Pix in a few days
-
So you bought it, eh?
-
yeah... pretty happy. Organised the cash today, do the registration stuff for the old car tomorrow (new plates to replace the vanity plates that are going on the Calais). Should be able to pick it up Thursday or Friday.
