Buy a Pontiac G8 while you still can. Same car, built in Adelaide.

Thanks Mello, if you get down here, you can travel around in style.

I'm thinking of getting a dark tint on the windows, and changing the pedals to alloy faced type.

Yes I've def been looking at the Pontiac G8s. I have a SSEi Bonneville now.. would love to upgrade to that 419 hp G8 but I was SO upset when they said I couldn't get heads up display. I effin love HUD!! I was told I'd have to buy a Caddy to get that feature.  :(

You're car is so fucking HOT though..

As much as I know that worldwide we're the minority, driving on the right still seems weird to me. Even when I lived in Spain, I only ever really rode a motorbike. And a bike's a bike no matter which side of the road you're driving on.

Sweet fuckin' ride dude. What's the engine like?
Title: Re: Mah wheels
Post by: mosh on May 16, 2009, 01:05:51 PM
See, thats all I know. I tried driving in the US, and I kept fucking up left turns. My brother did all the rest of the driving on that trip.

Engine's good. Things no record breaker off the line, being nearly 1900kgs... but it hikes along. Doesnt sound as throaty as my last car (which had a single exhaust), but it has 50% more power for less fuel. Need's it becaise its a good 250kgs heavier.
Breaks are good, but the ride is supreme... not soft, kinda like a BMW 5 series. And I'm still figuring out how it all works.

Post by: mosh on May 16, 2009, 02:15:24 PM
yeah, 3.6litre... they claim a limited top speed of 240kmh, but I'll never get the chance to take it near that... I did have the consumption under 6 litres per 100ks cruising on the freeway today (roughly 40mpg), but if I get under 12litres per 100ks city driving, I'll be happy...

detroit was talking about this car last week. He was in oz last summer and kept noticing this car. He inquired and found out it was the pontiac G8 - shame about that company. Nice cars (some of them)

I wouldn't do just becuase you can never be sure about the road conditions. potholes, oil and so on. I suggest a track day.

The Jacks dont take kindly to that kinda driving... I'll keep my licence thanks. I cant even take it to the Northern Territory and open the taps anymore since the territory government introduced speed limits last year. Might take it to Philip Island and try the track there, I think they have track days.

I wish we has a road system like the US Interstate system here... but we dont, and like HoJo said, once you get out to the cities, the road quality can become very dubious.

Its actually the other way round, the G8 is the Commodore. The GTO from a few years ago was also a Commodore variant.

I hated the scoops on the "hot" monaro ( GTO in USA.(?) ). WIth the VX/VE front end it would of been nice. I think the VY front was too soft for the scoops.

Trivia : I had a XR6 Turbo for 3 weeks as a loaner. It was better than any Holden at the time. Havent driven the model with the new rack...soo, there is a chance I might consider it better than any holden going now. ( but i doubt it ( The rack was worse than reported.) )

The bonnet scoops on the second Monaro were too close together for my liking. The scoops on the old XB-XC Falcons always looked brilliant, because the spacing looked right.

The thing that stops me buying Ford isnt the mechanics... they've better transmissions and suspensions than Holden, its the way the interiors are laid out. The Falcon is too cramped, sit too high in the drivers seat, and the instrument positioning is all wrong.

Agreed.

Trivia : The only reasons I didn't buy a new Mini was : that damm speedo: big, ugly and poorly placed. ; My '79 square nose is way more fun ( org. 1100cc pushed to 1275cc ( no webbers ) )

The new GTOs were sweet. It was sad to see them go. Just saw a whole shitload of them tonite at the OC car show take down Mustang after Mustang. They are fucking awesome and hold there own.

My first car was a 1987 Pontiac GTA Trans Am. Loved that car!

Nice first car. Occasionally you'd see a Trans Am down here, but they were expensive to bring in, then convert from left hand drive and compliance.

I love those Monaro's (GTO's). Much better handling charactaristics than the Mustang, bigger engine and better use of the output at the wheels. And they look great.

Nah, it was my (then) girlfriend's mother's old shitbox, and we fixed it up just enough to have a decently running vehicle. If there's one thing Corollas are, it's tough. And it was pretty cool to not have to even pay attention to backing up. Just put it in reverse and stop when you hear a crunch.

Danke. Come out, we'll cruise the Esplanade in St Kilda, pick up street walkers, spit roast them, and bury them in St Kilda beach.

Title: Re: Mah wheels
Post by: mosh on May 19, 2009, 08:30:47 AM
I dunno the actual history or anything, but I suspect thats why the US put the wheel on the left, because the right arm is usually the strong one, and way back when, I imagine transmissions required a fair bit of force to change gears, before syncromeshing. When I had my Triumph 2000 in the 1980's, I really wished I'd gotten an automatic, because as a manual, that thing was a bitch to change gears with my left hand. And the clutch needed all the strength in my left leg to push.

Lots of people think its because the Brits put the wheel on the right, just to be different, the US put it on the left.

Like I said, I dont actually know the real reason.

Holden used that same engine in some models of the car I used to have... 180kw's I think. I didnt sell well here, I dont think Holden marketed it very well.
