Who listens/likes? Sleep, Electric Wizard, etc....goooood shit, stoned or not.
-
I like Kyuss and Sleep. I liked Monster Magnet's first couple of albums. Is Clutch stoner? A lot of their songs sound like they could be called stoner rock.
I like sludge metal more than stoner metal though.
-
Either way, doom metal and it's subgenres are great. I'm getting way more into it than I used to be. I guess I'm getting old and "slowing down". I'm prefering slower music, not lighter, just slower. Hell, I'll take it to the Sunn O))) extreme, even they rock. Oh, and Eyehategod is great sludge. I was recommended Elder for being similar to Sleep, they're really good too.

Acid Bath is one of my favorite bands of all time. I also like Crowbar a lot.
I agree about eyehategod and Sunn 0))). There are tons of bands that do something between doom and other genres of music that are pretty good. Unearthly Trance, for example.
I've always been into the gloomy & doomy side of metal, though, probably since it fits my bleak world view and tendency towards melancholic moods. When I flip through my metal albums, there's a smattering of death & grindcore mixed in with mostly sub genres of doom and symphonic black metal.

I like Type-O. Dunno if they fit but they can be pretty gloomy.
-
Type O was the band that got me into metal. Before I started listening to them, I was just listening to a whole lot of punk rock.

Type-O is good goth/doom metal. I've already ranted about how Black #1 is probably the perfect song.

No need to retract. VH1 was doing some passable things musically as far as a major network goes for a pretty brief period there.
Take As Needed for Pain is probably the best eyehategod album. I was listening to it in the car earlier and remembered this thread.

Fo sho.

Doesn't matter what nuthuggers latch on to Motorhead, the fact is that they still rule.
The only song I really like on the Probot album is the Lemmy song.
