Oh, and I'm taking NOTHING from your drummer; I'm a death metal fan, and he's good, don't get me wrong ...

Oh, I know ...
I've always MARVELED at their prowess ...
Remember, I was originally taught to play the drums (my dad was a professional drummer) ...

... oh, and, you're welcome!

I shared these with detroit when he got home, he's seen them, but loves them anyway.

he wasnt too impressed with the metal guy, and really, neither am I. I mean, *I* can not play shit on the drums, but look at GK and BR compared to that guy. With the exception of a few turns, he's only doing 64ths double bass, and 16ths in the snares overlaying Quarters.
However, he IS singing while playing which I always find fairly impressive.

Why has no one mentioned John Bonham?!

Don't worry, I will.

I hate that speed metal drumming shit. A 1000 drummers that all sound the same chugging out 32'nd notes on the bass drum. I don't think any of them have ever heard of dynamics.

Stewart Copeland did a drum clinic and he sat down on the kit and started playing a simple 4/4 beat. The choads in attendance started laughing and he stopped them and said "Yeah, you may think this is funny, but I bet half of you couldn't sit here and play this for longer than a few seconds without ruining it with some bullshit."

You want an example of good drumming, listen to the Toto song Rosanna, and try to play that shuffle that Jeff Porcaro is putting down. That's some tight shit in a cheesy 80's supergroup.

this is my problem with all speed, death whatever metal. Lack of anything to do with dynamics, or phrasing
