Oil fields have nothing to do with anyone.
Everything, at this point, is based on people gaming the commodities market and the fact that oil refining capacity didn't expand because everyone in the business knew that a peak was coming. We are somewhere in the vicinity of peak oil right now.
We also, in my opinion, hit peak employment a long time ago. Automation has displaced a lot of jobs. An economic policy that encouraged outsourcing displaced jobs. Some jobs come back, but it's only at the point where you've reduced the vast majority of the labor requirement.
