I just conducted an informal office poll amongst my three male co-workers that consisted of the following question: "If you were hanging out with some dude and he told you that he generally preferrs women but sucks dick too from time to time would you consider him gay, bi, or straight?"

Three of three respondants answered gay. I think they also suspect that I'm gay now just for asking that question. As a matter of fact, one of them just walked into my office and said, "So who's your boyfriend?" and started making sucky noises at me. He then followed up that question with "What happened, did you meet some dude and accidentally suck his dick last night?"

Would Ligotti like to be the star of this show? Otherwise his concepts are just getting wider dispersal.

Yeah maybe it's being a little dishonest but as long as he is given credit somewhere as inspiration I don't see a problem with borrowing his words.

It's a fair use issue.

According to the Wall Street Journal interviews, he told them that it was his own content, then once he was caught lying about it, he backpedaled, saying that he was inspired by Ligotti. From what I gather, Ligotti is a person that writes laboriously but wants little admiration. Hell, he doesn't even want to stick up for his own content! He has a person that's a fan of his work pursue the accusations against Nic Pizzolatto. I'm sure that Nic is right that the ideas have been expressed by Neitzsche and others, but Nic's wording is where he falls into trouble.

Btw, not a show I would ever watch.

I understand completely. I refuse to watch those shows for the exact same reason. But this isn't a pro-police drama. The character, Rust Cohle (McConaughey), is under investigation about events that happened before and after he left the police force to do his own investigation into a conspiracy orchestrated by Southern Evangelicals, politicians, and a family of aristocrats. It's not like an Adam-12, NYPD Blue, or CSI series that glorifies the police and their operations. Rust Cohle was an undercover narcotics agent that became addicted to all sorts of wild shit before becoming partners with Harrelson's character; it's dark and it deals with subject matter that is nauseating for some viewers. Hell, it's fuckin' HBO. And the opening credits, well, they speak for themselves:
