Next they will be teaching flat earth science.

I'm not joking the flat earth people have really been outspoken lately.
I think it has something to do with the questions about the Apollo missions possibly being faked.
The questions about the space program, the cold war and other apparent lies we have been taught seem to be emboldening them.

In reality nobody in the ancient world ever believed the earth was flat, They though Columbus was an idiot for thinking it was too small when the actual diameter had already been well defined. If the Americas hadn't been there his men would have starved to death trying to get to India. Not even the Vatican ever believed the earth was flat. They imprisoned Galileo for saying the earth revolved around the sun and was not the center of the universe.

But you would be amazed how many people have climbed on board the flat earth theories hay-ride just recently. Many think it is because of the church but the church never promoted a flat earth. The only first reference to a flat earth was given in an 1800's story of the fears of Columbus's men, a wholly fictional tale.

No, that makes sense ...

But, why, in today's day and age ... WITH PICTURES OF THE EARTH, does ANYONE think this?

Look into it, I can't believe how many people are getting behind it. But the usual pictures in text books and such are proven to be composites, ie, fake, so they have a foothold there.

Of course this issue could just be a way of trying to force other issues to the fore.

Seriously, how in the fuck do seemingly reasonable, rational people fall for this shit?

My nieces go to a local christian "academy", and I've always begged their mother and grandmother to let them go ANYWHERE else.  Yesterday they came to visit and I spent ten minutes trying to convince my eight year old niece that the sun did not revolve around the earth, but that, in fact, it was the other way around.  She would not budge.  I looked at my mother and said "Yeah, they get JUST as good an education at the religious brainwashing school, don't they?" She didn't have a reply.

What can she say at that point?

Any reply would have to do with what that person believes and quite frankly a large section of the public have never given it a single thought. The flat earters for instance don't believe either theory, nothing rotates, they claim the earth is just a melted circle in an infinite plane of ice and the sun moves in a circle in one place keeping the round but flat "earth" as we know it melted. The ice wall surrounding us is Antarctica and isn't a continent all all but the boundary around us. When you sail around the world you just go around the edge in a flat lander circle.  They provide a lot of suspicious math to back them up.

If you have no clue to start with and no real desire to find or understand the truth, then any theory sounds as good as any other.

Of course in church whatever they say is always the "truth".
