It is revealed in this episode that Puggy Weaver, Al's bowling nemesis from the Season 4 episode "Peggy Turns 300", died during a waffle eating competition. The championship trophy for Al's bowling league is named after him.

I just caught this one ...
Peggy rolled a 300 game in that earlier episode mentioned in the quote (S4E19: Peggy Turns 300) ...
She, at that time, beat the record of the alley (it was somewhere around 287ish, set by Puggy Weaver) ...
----> Peggy beat Puggy <--> Peggy Wanker beat Puggy Weaver ... <---- (Get it yet?)
... (And dashed Al's local high-score hopes forever , but that's another thing altogether)

I had never caught that before ...
I'm not sure most others have either ...
