Unvaccinated parts of country are driving the pandemic now(Read 1838 times)
Quote
Virtually all deaths from COVID-19 in the United States are now among people who have not received their coronavirus vaccine. And those deaths are highly concentrated in counties — many of them in the Midwest and Southeast — where vaccination rates are precariously low.

On the other hand, transmission has effectively ceased in Northeastern and Western states where governors have made vaccination a top priority, and where resistance was low among residents from the start.

----Skipping Forward----

Walensky said that in recent months, 99.5 percent of all deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S. were among unvaccinated individuals. “Those deaths were preventable with a simple, safe shot,” the CDC director said. President Biden has made much the same point, and he and his top public health officials look for ways to galvanize a stalled vaccination effort.

Although some vaccinated people do contract the coronavirus, it tends to lead only to mild sickness.

Eh. I still hold to my favorite conspiracy theory:

1. Create a super effective vaccine.
2. Give everybody ample opportunity to take it.
3. Release a variant of the disease with a super high fatality rate and kill off the unvaccinated.

You could wipe out 15-30% of global population that way. It's a win-win for the environment, reducing consumption, and combating climate change while getting rid of excess people. If Bill Gates were actually smart and behind some grand conspiracy, that would be what he's doing.

Florida, Texas and Missouri are contributing the highest number of new cases in the nation.
By Adam Barnes | July 23, 2021

Several states account for around 40 percent of all new coronavirus cases, as the delta variant surges across the U.S.

White House coronavirus response coordinator Jeff Zients told reporters Thursday that Florida, Texas and Missouri are contributing the highest number of new cases in the nation, adding that 1 in 5 are occurring in Florida, and "primarily among unvaccinated people."

"Each shot matters," Zients said. "Each additional person fully vaccinated is a step closer to putting this pandemic behind us."

WTF?
I guess I'm not going down there any time soon ...

COVID-19 patients in ICUs at a Florida hospital are 'begging' to be vaccinated, nurse says

Patients in ICUs at a Florida hospital are "begging" to be vaccinated, a nurse told CNN.
Almost all of the patients in ICUs at the hospital have not yet received a shot, CNN reported.

The nurse often has to remind patients that the right time to get vaccinated is before getting sick, she said.

Patients in intensive care units (ICUs) with COVID-19 at a Florida hospital are "begging" to be vaccinated, a nurse told CNN.

The unnamed nurse, who works at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, said that patients, the overwhelming majority of whom are unvaccinated, are "at a loss" for what they can do to stay alive.

-------------

"Every single day... you're getting ready to intubate the patient in ICU, which means putting them on a ventilator, and they say, 'If I get the vaccine now, can I not go on the ventilator?'" the nurse told CNN's Randi Kaye.

She said that she has to repeatedly point out that the right time to get a COVID-19 vaccine is before they get sick.

"They're desperate because they're gasping for air, they can't breathe, they're scared, they feel like they're going to pass away," the nurse continued. "They're just asking for whatever they can do to possibly keep them from being put on a ventilator because once a patient gets on a ventilator, it's really hard to wean them off."

Three patients told Randi Kaye that they would get vaccinated if they survive their spell in the ICU, CNN reported.

"These are patients who chose not to get the vaccine but now desperately want it," Kaye said.

The number of COVID-19 patients at Baptist Medical Center is rapidly rising, according to CNN. There are 349 patients with coronavirus at the moment, and 74 are in the ICU, the media outlet reported.

Around 44 percent of the patients at the hospital are under the age of 40, and are staying at the hospital much longer because they are sicker, Kaye said.

An overwhelming majority (99.6 percent) have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine, CNN added.

Jacksonville, where the hospital is situated, is one of the coronavirus hot spots in Florida, according to The New York Times.

Florida is confronting a COVID-19 spike. More than 73,000 new cases were reported this week, WFLA reported. The state now accounts for nearly a quarter of all new coronavirus cases reported in the US, Insider's Charles Davis reported.

Rising hospitalizations in states like Florida might encourage some Americans to get a shot, Insider's Aria Bendix said.

An Alabama man who called himself the 'vaccine police' told pharmacists at a Missouri Walmart that they will be 'executed' if they continued giving COVID-19 shots

A man who calls himself the "vaccine police" stormed into a Missouri Walmart on Monday to put staff on notice," the Springfield News-Leader first reported.

Christopher Key told pharmacists in the store that they would be "executed" if they keep giving COVID vaccine shots.

Key is reportedly an anti-vaxxer from Alabama.

A man, who calls himself the "vaccine police," entered a Walmart in Springfield, Missouri to put staff "on public notice," telling pharmacists they could be "executed" if they carry out COVID-19 vaccine shots, according to reports.

The man identified as Christopher Key, an anti-vaxxer from Alabama, live-streamed the confrontation on Facebook last week, on August 16, according to the Springfield News-Leader.

The video shows Key and a handful of supporters praying in the parking lot of the supercenter before entering. During the prayer, a person could be heard saying: "Thank you, Lord Jesus, for waking up Springfield" and "help us put the fear of God in these pharmacists."

"Okay, guys, this is the vaccine police. We're outside of Walmart about to go in. We're going to put Walmart and the pharmacists on notice to let them know that there in violation of the Nuremberg Code," Key said in the 30-minute live stream.

He continued: "We're going to let them know that 45,000 people within three days of receiving the vaccine dropped dead. And if they give one more vaccine after today, after being put on notice, then they can be hung up, and they can be executed."

In the video, as the group walks towards the pharmacy, staff members are seen locking up and placing a "No Pharmacist on Duty" sign on the door. A local resident told the News-Leader that they had warned the staff ahead of Key's arrival after seeing his plan online to show up.

"I'm not trying to give you any fear and intimidation," Key told a staff member in the video. "I'm just letting you guys know that if you continue to do this, that you guys will be held accountable."

Key spewed multiple baseless claims in the video, stating that more than 40,000 people died in three days after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Towards the end of the video, the group walks out of the store, and Key told a police officer outside that the pharmacists shut the door "when all I wanted to do was get the vaccine," ranting that it's "discrimination."

The Washington Post reported that Key also went to a CVS and Walgreens that same day. According to the Post, he has made false medical claims in the past.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the vaccine is an effective tool to help combat COVID-19. The CDC said those who are fully vaccinated may experience a "breakthrough case." Still, a small percentage will be hospitalized, die, or suffer illness due to the virus.

Missouri has experienced a heavy surge of COVID-19 throughout the summer as the Delta variant spread throughout the country. Local news reported that hospitals in the state have seen over 600 patients in ICUs since July 30.

Data shows that only 43% of the population in Missouri are fully vaccinated as of Friday.

As the Washington Post reported last month, the city of Springfield has been battling with COVID-19 amid low vaccination rates and vaccine misinformation.

Poll: More unvaccinated Americans blame vaccinated Americans for the Delta surge than blame themselves
More unvaccinated Americans blame vaccinated Americans for Delta’s devastating U.S. surge than blame themselves, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

The survey of 1,649 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Aug. 16 to 18, found that just 6 percent of those who remain unvaccinated say they are the ones who deserve “the most blame for the new surge of COVID cases in the U.S.” The share who say vaccinated Americans deserve the most blame is slightly higher (7 percent).

Likewise, when asked “how much” blame each group deserves, just 9 percent of unvaccinated Americans say they themselves deserve a “great deal of blame.” Nearly twice as many (15 percent) say vaccinated Americans deserve a great deal of blame.

The fact that unvaccinated Americans say their vaccinated peers bear more responsibility for Delta’s spread flies in the face of data showing that it’s actually unvaccinated Americans who now account for a vast majority of new COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths — and it underscores just how difficult it will be to convince most unvaccinated Americans that they have a role to play in ending the pandemic.

Indeed, unvaccinated Americans tend to blame everyone but themselves for the Delta wave, with a full third saying the Biden administration (34 percent) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “and other public-health authorities” (33 percent) deserve a “great deal of blame” — nearly four times the share who say the same about themselves (again, 9 percent). Fewer (24 percent) place a great deal of blame on “Americans who refuse to wear masks and take other precautions.”

In stark contrast, nearly three-quarters of vaccinated Americans (71 percent) say unvaccinated Americans deserve a great deal of blame for Delta’s surge. Similar numbers say the same about Americans who refuse to wear masks and take other precautions (68 percent) and people who spread misinformation online and on TV (70 percent). But when asked to choose who deserves the “most blame,” the share of vaccinated Americans who say unvaccinated Americans (43 percent) dwarfs the share who say anti-maskers (26 percent) or misinformation peddlers (17 percent).

The widening divide between vaccinated and unvaccinated Americans couldn’t come at a more perilous moment, as the average number of new daily cases soars to more than 140,000 nationwide, new daily deaths top 1,000 for the first time since March and hot spots such as Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi set new hospitalization records nearly every day.

Overall, Americans recognize the danger of Delta, which is roughly twice as transmissible as the original version of the virus and can even be spread by vaccinated people. More than two-thirds (68 percent) say they are worried about the variant, and as a result, optimism about the U.S. pandemic has plummeted to a new low, with just 33 percent of Americans now maintaining that “the worst” of it is “behind us” and 38 percent predicting the worst is “yet to come.”
