not the best 'me first' cover, not by a longshot.

Re: Thought this was fun. Reply #7 on: October 20, 2009, 06:33:59 PM
Yeah, they give it a good shot, but there's simply no way to salvage a John Denver song.
Ah memories, though. Have a Ball was the third CD I ever bought.

Re: Thought this was fun. Reply #12 on: October 20, 2009, 07:01:09 PM
First vinyl: Valotte
First cassette:Full Moon Fever
First CD: The Presidents of the United States of America
Second CD: Our Bodies Our Selves
Third CD: Have a Ball
Fourth CD: Music Has the Right to Children
Fifth CD: In Utero

After that I lose track. My CD collection is by far the smallest hence why I can remember the order they entered by music cabinet so well.

First Cassette: Led Zeppelin Runes
First CD: Ugly Kid Joe

My first tape was Bad, and first vinyl was the Ghost Town single (Why? and Friday Night, Saturday Morning b-sides). First MP3 was Let's Have a War by Fear.

Pretty good lineup, I reckon.

What is first .mp3? The first one purchased?

I think the first .mp3s I ever had were a clutch of songs from my high school friends' band.
The first copyrighted .mp3 I ever downloaded illegally from Napster was Today
I've never purchased an .mp3 ever and I never intend to.

Re: Thought this was fun. Reply #16 on: October 20, 2009, 08:07:20 PM
Meaning the first MP3 I downloaded from Napster.

Although now that I think about I'm not sure that LHAW wasn't the first song I burned onto a CD, not the first one I downloaded. It cost me a blank CD to figure out that I couldn't just burn one song, then another, etc.
ever tried. ever failed. no matter. try again. fail again. fail better.

Re: Thought this was fun. Reply #17 on: October 20, 2009, 08:11:55 PM
I wasted my first burnable CD discovering that the burning program I was using would complete the burn even if all you'd done is named the CD.
I kept "Sweet Setlist" the blank CD for several months before deciding that I'd have more fun watching it in the microwave. We completely overdid it by setting it to something like 5 minutes. One of my friends molded the molten plastic and turned it into a crappy ashtray that we would use when we were smoking hookah. I threw it out after the first year of university. I miss those days.

I'm not really ashamed or proud of my first purchases. They more represent a fairly arbitrary point in my life - the point when I became financially independent enough to make my own purchasing decisions. I inherited a huge bunch of excellent music from my parents, so it's not as if my first purchases represent the first music I deemed good enough to buy. My first LP purchase was more to test out the music - it was a $1 buy from a thrift store. My first CD purchase was on a class trip to NYC. I'd made a pact with friends that we'd each buy an illegal CD from an illegal CD vendor. this guys was only selling pop and the Presidents album was the only one I was interested in at all. My first cassette was bought from a friend for 25 cents.

What was everyone's first concert(s)?
Mine was Bob Dylan (with Jewel as the opener).
I think my second was Rancid.

Dude, I had a fuckin' Paula Abdul tape back then. Paula Abdul was the hotness in those days.

My first concert was Diana King, Beres Hammond, and Buju Banton, with a few other minor acts.
