Any of you lucky enough to get in on this yet?  I got an invite through sordid means, and it looks good so far.  Going to need some serious renovations before it's ready to compete with Facebook though.

But I was already preparing to delete my FB account anyway.  Between my family and the swath of old high school classmates I added because of our 20th reunion coming up soon, I've ended up getting involved with more and more FB arguments with these fundie tea party fucks than I really care for.

I sincerely hope he runs for president.  Then the vast torrent of ridicule from him being an insipid fundie tea party secessionist fuckwit who wears cowboy boots to political functions might make some of the people in Texas rethink their positions.  Hell, there were rumors back in 2008 that Texas might come close to going blue because of Austin and Dallas, but hillbillies came crawling out of the backwoods to vote for the first time in twenty years when they heard there was a darkie that needed takin' down.

I'm on Google+.  Overall, I would say it's the first social networking tool that seems to have actually tried to ask "what do people want/need in a social networking tool?"  I'm also hoping they leave it really bare bones and let people add to it via gadgets, like how you currently add features to gmail by selecting which features you like in Labs.  As more of my friends get Google+ accounts, I will be looking to phase out my use of Facebook.

Amen I say to you. Google creeps me out. As they send me targeted ads in response to emails I've received and as they add documents I've emailed to people to my google docs folder I feel myself reaching for Tru's tinfoil hat of protection more and more. In fact I probably shouldn't be posting this here as Google approaches sentient omniscience. I've gotten an invite to G+ but haven't accepted yet. I probably will though so I can hide in plain sight and so I can protect myself from Google with misinformation.

So far as I know it's still a little tough/annoying to get in.  What happened was a few weeks ago they cranked it up and started letting people set up accounts, and gave those people the ability to invite others.  The result was an exponential rise/explosion of new accounts that started to overload their capacity within a few hours, so they shut invites back down.  Now you can still send invites by posting a message with someone's E-mail in the "add to" box at the bottom, but even then, they only open access to join up every so often, to manage the number of people joining at once.  so you have to just keep trying every couple/few hours until you get lucky and hit a time when account creation is open again.

Anyone wants an invite PM me your e-mail and I'll send you one, then you can play google roulette for awhile until you get in.

I'm in there but I dont find myself using it really. I think their play is going to be a tight mesh with gmail.

That will certainly make it easy - check email, check messages, check calender/invites, etc. all in one place.

I basically use facebook to argue on other people's status messages and manage invitations to various things in Baltimore.  I'd be happy to be rid of various other things - games, the new feature where I am a member of a group for things I just "liked" and wanted to follow occasionally, and other assorted "features" that serve more to annoy me than anything else.

I signed up but haven't really explored it yet.
