I just started a London Broil marinating for tomorrow. I'm going to bake it like a roast with potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, garlic and mushrooms if I feel like going to the store sometime tomorrow. (they only had sliced and I want whole)

I'll take it out of the marinade and sear it before fixing it for the oven.

Don't have a clue for tonight, leftovers maybe.  Baloney sandwich if nothing else.

my beans took two days to cook. so we had beans and quinoa for dinner. gonna do chicken alfredo tomorrow. wish i had mushrooms.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1022 on: January 21, 2015, 02:59:31 PM
Woohoo I found green tomatoes again, this time at F4L.
Romas this time, haven't fried them before, I'm thinking they will be a little firmer but should still be yummy. And this time the check out girl had to do a double take. LOL

Oh got mushrooms too. And a pound of bacon for $1.89.

Was gonna get all fancy with my chicken alfredo. decided Im not up to it. roasting the whole chicken breast in bacon fat (it was already in the pan, couldnt bother to scrape it out) and stuck it in the  oven. was gonna debone and flatten the breast, do a spinach mushroom bacon pinwheel and the noodles and sauce, but eh. gonna still all be there, just not as pretty. still gonna make garlic butter with home grown garlic and home made butter on home made bread.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1024 on: January 21, 2015, 05:17:30 PM

slice it thinner. lol

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1026 on: January 21, 2015, 05:34:00 PM
>>roasting the whole chicken breast in bacon fat (it was already in the pan, couldnt bother to scrape it out)<<

Oh I do that fairly often too, as long as it's still clean and fresh why waste it.

I like bacon done in the microwave better but when done in a skillet it provides the perfect environment for making eggs.

Guess that's why so many people back in the 40's and 50's growing up on bacon and eggs had heart attacks. LOL

But seriously all of my recent blood tests came back in the normal range, even cholesterol was good. Only thing was my sugar level is a little elevated and they said I am pre-diabetic. Well duh! with all the sugar and candy I eat!

Been a candy hound my entire life.

usually feed it to the dog...  not a microwave person. love all things crunchy

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1028 on: January 21, 2015, 07:45:14 PM
I just put my London Broil in the oven at 325 with all the vegetables and a bit of the marinade. No other seasoning, the rest of the marinade with the big onion chunks and garlic I put in a small sauce pan with extra water. I plan on boiling it down into a gravy to add back later.

Should know in a couple hours.

Microwave bacon is very crunchy and sweeter than fried when drained, and chicken skins salted and peppered, microwaved on a plate sometimes on top of a paper towel are to die for.  take em out while still sizzling and place on another paper towel  and pat to adsorb the chicken grease.

but I fry it so perfectly already. why fuck with a good thing?

Never had London Broil. sounds yum though.

I love me roasted chicken skins, not sure I could do em in microwave and eat like chips.

Oh and my gravy idea is turning out to be like a to salty French Onion soup so far. Haven't thickened it yet.

Well don't need it anyway.

Plan to make peppered gravy and biscuits in the morning.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1033 on: January 23, 2015, 05:37:16 AM
I never used marinades before, thought I would give it a try.

Anyway I didn't put enough liquid back in and my shit got a little dried out. I'll remember this next time. Oh it was still pretty good, not burnt by any stretch.

Your breads look yummy.

I went to the Sunbeam bread factory on a school field trip back around 62 and fresh bread is wonderful. Guess that's why they call it Wonder Bread. LOL

I had Chinese take out today.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1042 on: January 28, 2015, 10:40:59 AM
oh, and i made achiote chicken tacos with green salsa and cilantro. they were butchin. gonna have more for  lunch. tonight, im making jerk chicken, fried plantains, and saffron rice.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1043 on: January 28, 2015, 09:42:40 PM
Pork chop, baked potato and a salad with cottage cheese as dressing.

I made the green Romas a couple days ago. they were pretty good but although were green outside had started turning red on the inside, a nice visual when cut open. They weren't as tangy as regular green tomatoes but remained firmer after cooking.
