Doc says I'm low on iron so she told me to eat more red meat.  First time i've ever heard a doctor say that.  Low on B12 and testosterone too, but she's gonns give me a monthly shot for that.

But I tried sauerkraut yesterday, and discovered that I goddamn LOVE sauerkraut.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1116 on: February 23, 2015, 03:26:01 PM
I like it but can't say I love it. You can make a really interesting German meatloaf using sauerkraut and caraway seeds.

I like KimChi once in a while and haven't found anyone else who does.

Phaedrus, how old are you?
B12 shots make you feel great. would be a great start to taking walks and stuff.

I like fresh cooked cabbage. not a real fan of vinegar and pickled foods.

I was kind of wondering how he could have had such a sheltered life to not have tried so many things already. LOL.  But then I knew an 86 year old woman who had never had toasted marshmallows or mushrooms on pizza until I introduced her to them.

I'm 42.  And culinarily (is that a word?) Yeah it's been pretty sheltered.  This is east texas, where it's either barbecue or fast food.

I think the German meatloaf recipe also used rye bread or pumpernickel I can't remember which.
I've only made it a couple of times and it's been years. But I'm sure the recipe is easier to find now than when I made it last time.

Well, I'll be 42 in June, actually, after adding it up.  June 26 1973.  I'm a Cancer.  TO SOCIETY!  HAW!

And I am about three or four hours north of Houston.  Right on the east edge of Texas, probably closer to Shreveport, La than any major city in Texas.  I grew up out in the country, but the tiny town I grew up near is in a Tex Ritter song.

BTW the 86 year old woman I mentioned and her husband were both from texas as well. Moved to Ca in 1949.
Don't know if that's relevant.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1126 on: February 24, 2015, 02:52:18 PM
Never made sauce completely from scratch. But have modified the stuff in the jar to make it seem more homemade almost always.

mmm chili. beans or no beans?

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #1132 on: February 25, 2015, 04:19:26 PM
No beans if you make cornbread, beans if using crackers.

Oh, why does no beans cost twice as much?

Oh you are saying that sauerkraut is not an ingredient in German meatloaf then?
No you are saying it's been omitted from most recipes huh?

Hard to find one, too bad because it was really good.

Isn't beans sort of a no no in texas?

I once said it isn't chili, without beans, to a guy from texas and he got upset.
