Yeah, I saw a video of him talking about ISIS.  It actually made some sense, which is scary because I can usually make sense of US policy in the two common ways its practiced (in support of empire or as realpolitik) and I can't in this case...

Isn't ISIS just a part of the eventual vacuum of power that's left after an overthrown government? They are incredibly violent resembling something of the Huns during their escapades throughout Europe. The group will probably not survive if it doesn't have a contentious foe to fight against (see: Hamas).
