Anyone been keeping up with this story? Any coverage in the main media?

I watched a couple very disturbing videos this morning, it seems the nuclear fuel is gone from the containment vessels and may have melted down through the floor. Also that thousands of tons of contaminated water are being dumped into the Pacific every day.

Well, that's certainly a comfort ...

I really think there is an answer to this and no other acceptable answer will ever come about left up to them.
Either we allow the destroyed reactors to continue poisoning the entire pacific for the next 1000 years+
or we nuke the facility with the largest hydrogen bomb in existence!

Sure it sounds crazy, but a precisely placed thermonuclear detonation would incorporate all of the core material and vaporize it in the resulting fusion detonation. As we well know from several thousand nuclear tests the results of a fusion explosion are pretty short lived. The cores would be gone and in a few years things would go back to normal. The Japanese and international community have no answer except to let the melted cores contaminate the entire pacific ocean and atmosphere for the next 1000 years or so. So, which scenario sounds worse?
