It Interesting How Much (Or Little) Mileage Being A Hybrid Adds To A Vehicle(Read 2184 times)
Here's an example using one of my vehicles - 2007 Ford Escape FWD 4 cyl, 2.3 L, Automatic 4-spd
Now compare to all of the options for that year

It's interesting, actually ...
I considered hybrid too ...
One other advantage; when I had change my damaged transmission,
I found out that the hybrid transmission was a FRACTION of the cost of the C4DE (regular) tranny ...

I had a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The efficiency when I bought it was 50+ mpg; they subsequently revised it downward. I never even got the mileage that they list now (42 mpg combined) in mostly highway driving. I would typically get 32-33 mpg.

My car after that was a 2012 Mazda 3 Hatchback. With the same commute, I averaged 33-36 mpg which is better than the EPA's combined number (30 mpg) and almost exactly what they posted for highway mileage. My current car, a 2018 Toyota Camry with the same commute also nails their combined number (I get 32-34 mpg, the combined number is 32).

I would not buy a hybrid again. But this might be my last gas-powered car anyway, with companies making a big push to electric. GM has said they're going fully electric. I think Volvo may have said the same?

Problem is the limit of distance with electric cars ...

Yeah, I guess we’ll see. When I looked at electric cars a few years ago, I think I would have been able to do my commute with a $90K Tesla without charging during the day. The less expensive electric cars (Nissan Leaf, maybe?) would’ve required me to stop someplace and charge. And it was still significantly more expensive than a gas powered car.

The US is set up in the least efficient manner possible, so this is going to be an obnoxious transition.

That's all true but batteries and power systems are getting better by the day.

Yeah, but where you can fill a car with gas in a couple of minutes, you can't do the same with a recharge ....
